M’sians Stranded In Thai Floods Grateful HONOR Phone Helped Them Escape | WeirdKaya
2 days ago
Severe floods in southern Thailand recently left many travellers stuck on the road with little or no mobile coverage.
Amid the chaos, a Facebook user shared a post in a travel group highlighting how one Malaysian convoy managed to stay online long enough to escape the affected area.
In his post, he wrote:
He also attached two screenshots that explained what happened to the travellers he was referring to.
Malaysians stuck in Chana for two daysThe first screenshot came from a Malaysian who said their group had just made it back safely to Dannok after being stranded at a petrol station in Chana for two days.
Their convoy had five cars and about twenty people. There were elderly passengers, children and a pregnant woman among them.
They wrote that the area had no mobile signal at all. They were completely cut off from the outside world, and even when water levels in Dannok had already receded, they had no way of knowing.
One phone occasionally picked up dataAccording to the post, only one phone in the group managed to receive bits of data at random intervals.
The device was an HONOR Magic 7 Pro. The user said the data had to stay on the entire time so that any outgoing messages could be delivered the moment signal appeared.
One such message eventually went through. A friend informed them that Dannok was already accessible.
The group then checked with local residents who pointed them to a mountain road since all the main routes were still flooded.
With the small amount of data they could get from the AIS network, they used Google Maps and successfully navigated their way out of Chana.
Another traveller shared a similar experienceThe second screenshot featured another traveller who said her HONOR phone with a DTAC SIM card still worked in the flood zone, but only if she climbed up to the rooftop.
She added that her sister’s iPhone with an eSIM had no signal at all in the same location.
If anything, it proves one thing most of us already know very well, when Malaysians travel in a group, there will always be that one phone everyone ends up relying on.
