M’sian Boy Has 12 Teeth Removed Due To Severe Cavities Caused By Him Not Brushing Them Before Sleeping | WeirdKaya
A Facebook post has gone viral after a Malaysian mother revealed that her young son had to undergo a major dental procedure where all 12 of his damaged teeth were extracted due to severe cavities.

The story was shared in the comment section of the mother’s own Facebook post, where she explained the long and worrying journey that led to the surgery.

Persistent headaches and vomiting raised alarms

According to the mother, everything began a few months ago when her son kept waking up with intense headaches. Although he followed her instructions to get ready for school, she noticed he looked unusually weak.

After school, the headaches persisted and he had little appetite. He vomited twice and remained dizzy and inactive, prompting her to bring him to a clinic.

However, even after taking the medication prescribed by the doctor, the boy continued to vomit and his dizziness did not improve. The next day, the mother returned to the clinic, where doctors decided to admit him for further checks.

Doctors suspected something more serious

Hospital doctors could not determine the cause of the headaches and recommended a lumbar puncture to rule out brain inflammation.

The mother declined the procedure, after which specialists referred the boy to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) for a CT scan.

Upon arrival, the boy was sedated for the scan. The results came back normal but he remained warded for several days for close monitoring, antibiotics and follow up checks by the paediatric team.

During the routine examinations, one of the doctors listened to his heartbeat and noticed something unusual. A scan later showed a very small hole in his heart.

Severe dental decay discovered

Doctors also checked his mouth and were alarmed to find that all of his teeth were badly decayed. They referred him to an oral surgery specialist at HSNZ.

When the mother met the specialist, she was told that none of the boy’s teeth could be saved. All of them had to be removed because the damage was too severe for fillings or partial extraction.

The mother was then placed on a waiting list for the operation, which took around two to three months to secure.

A major operation for a young child

Before the surgery date, the boy was required to be admitted early so that doctors could monitor him, especially since fever or cough could cause complications. The mother also attended a pre operation briefing with the anaesthetist to understand the risks involved.

On the day of the procedure, one parent was allowed to accompany him into the operating room until he was fully sedated. The surgery went smoothly and doctors monitored him for thirty minutes before wheeling him out.

He woke up groggy and cried for a while due to the numbness and mild pain, but eventually calmed down. He was fed porridge later, only after four hours to prevent vomiting.

Mother admits guilt, but grateful her son is recovering

The mother said her son developed severe cavities due to prolonged bottle feeding. He used a milk bottle until he was four years old and often slept without brushing his teeth. This caused the teeth to turn black and deteriorate.

She also admitted she feels guilty for not managing his oral hygiene well, but is thankful that her son is now active, healthy and recovering well.

Her child is also living with eczema, a squint eye and a few other conditions. Despite that, she says he remains energetic and cheerful, and she expresses gratitude that he is doing well after the surgery.

She ends by saying she does not mind the many hospital appointments as long as her child stays healthy.
