School Bus Overturns After Driving Over Uncovered Cable Manhole In Johor | WeirdKaya

A school bus carrying students turned turtle due to the driver losing control of the vehicle after driving over a cable manhole which was uncovered.

Photos of the accident were shared widely on social media, where it showed the bus’ windows all shattered and blood streaks on the road.

According to China Press, the incident occurred at around 7am this morning along Jalan Abdul Samad in Johor Bahru.

The Chinese daily reported that the bus was transporting primary and secondary students when it drove over the exposed manhole, causing it to overturn.

Several students reportedly sustained injuries from the crash and were sent to the Johor Bahru General Hospital for treatment.

Currently, it’s unclear whether the cable manhole cover had been removed by thieves or was negligently left open by a contractor.

Following photos of the accident going viral online, netizens have called upon Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz to look into the incident.

When contacted by China Press, Johor Bahru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat confirmed the incident and said police are currently investigating.

Probe ordered

Following the incident, Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh called for a thorough probe to be carried out.

“I have instructed the authorities to investigate the matter immediately and take appropriate action against any party found to be negligent or responsible.

“I will also ensure that an immediate audit is carried out in the surrounding area to identify any other infrastructure risks that could endanger road users, particularly on routes frequently used by students and public transport,” he said as quoted by NST.

Meanwhile State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said a total of 16 students were hurt in the accident.
