234 summonses issued, 11 vehicles seized in JPJ op at Kuching-Samarahan Expressway

KUCHING (July 18): The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has continued to ramp up efforts to enhance road safety by carrying out an operation at the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway last night.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the department said the operation, led by Deputy Director Norazlan Ibrahim, ran from 7.30pm until midnight and involved 37 officers and enforcement personnel.

“A total of 936 vehicles were inspected, with 234 summonses issued for various traffic offences.

“One of the most frequently detected offences was driving without a valid driving licence, with 66 cases recorded.

“There is still a tendency among certain road users to neglect the importance of possessing a valid licence,” it said.

In addition, 11 vehicles were seized due to serious violations.

JPJ Sarawak emphasised that enforcement is not solely about punishment, but also plays a key role in educating the public and promoting awareness that road safety is a shared responsibility.

“JPJ Sarawak remains committed to conducting such operations from time to time to ensure that traffic law compliance remains at the highest level,” it added.
