Blurry CCTV footage hinders identification of suspects who attacked Rafizi's son - IGP

KUALA LUMPUR - Police are still facing hurdles in identifying the suspects who attacked the 12-year-old son of former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli at a mall in Putrajaya, last month.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene was too unclear, making recognition of the suspects difficult.
"Although several individuals were identified through the footage, further confirmation has not been possible.
"We have been tracking the movement. We are also aware that there are a few individuals identified through the recording, but the CCTV footage does not appear to be clear and the individuals cannot be recognised," he said during a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol), today.
He added that police were still awaiting a hospital report on the type of liquid injected into the victim’s body.
"The investigation is being conducted by the hospital. So, we are still waiting for several details from them," he said.
Last Saturday, Rafizi told a local news portal he had yet to receive any updates from the police on his son’s case.
The incident occurred at around 1.45pm on Aug 13 when Rafizi’s wife and son were about to leave the mall.
His son was suddenly pulled by a man and injected with a syringe. Preliminary checks revealed that two men on a motorcycle, both dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets had been tailing the vehicle prior to the assault.
So far, witness statements have been recorded and CCTV examined, but no arrests have been made.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that police were tracking down two motorcyclists suspected of involvement.
He said the motorcycle had been identified but the registration number was found to be fake.
Fortunately, Rafizi’s son did not suffer any physical injuries.
