Penang-Chennai flights unaffected by IndiGo pilot shortage crisis
1 day ago
GEORGE TOWN: Direct flights between Chennai and Penang operated by IndiGo Airlines remain unaffected by the carrier’s wider operational crisis.
Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai confirmed Flight 6E1045 from Chennai landed safely at Penang International Airport at 8.09 am today.
“This morning, the Chennai-Penang flight landed as usual and operations have not been affected for several days now,“ he said.
The airline’s crisis in India stems from a pilot and crew shortage following new Flight Duty Time Limitations rules mandating longer rest periods.
IndiGo admitted miscalculating pilot requirements under the new FDTL regulations.
The Indian government has ordered an investigation into the airline’s alleged mismanagement.
A committee has been formed to determine responsibility for the operational failure.
IndiGo launched the direct Chennai-Penang route on Dec 21, 2024.
The service features fully lie-flat business class seats and an in-flight entertainment system.
Penang International Airport recorded a 51.43% increase in Indian tourist arrivals last year. – Bernama
