PayNet and AWS unleashes Malaysia's new wave of fintech leaders

Hold on to your seats, Malaysia! Our future fintech leaders are officially ready to storm the digital world, and it’s all thanks to Program Akar, powered by AWS re/Start. This innovative program, a partnership between PayNet and Amazon Web Services (AWS), just graduated its first batch of 50 students who are now armed with killer cloud skills and industry experience to take Malaysia’s financial services sector by storm.

Program Akar empowers the digital workforce

Program Akar aims to tackle Malaysia’s growing demand for digital talent in sectors like cloud computing, AI, and cybersecurity. With its inaugural cohort of 50 students, the program provided participants with world-class training and industry-recognized AWS Cloud Practitioner certifications. But it wasn’t just about the technical skills; students also benefited from mentorship, internship placements, and specialized pathways designed to launch their careers in financial services.

At the graduation ceremony held on 20th November 2024, distinguished guests celebrated the students’ accomplishments, including:

This successful collaboration wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of key partners such as World Education Placement Services (WEPS), Asia Pacific University (APU), and industry giants like Bank Negara Malaysia, Maybank, Public Bank, and GHL who offered hands-on learning opportunities.

PayNet Akar and AWS re/Start team up to equip young Malaysians with more than just tech skills

This program isn’t just about tech skills (though, let’s be real, that’s super important). Graduates also got to spend time in internships, learning soft skills like leadership and teamwork. After all, if you can’t lead a team or work well with others, you’re not gonna get far, no matter how good you are at coding, right?

PayNet Akar and AWS re/Start have teamed up to make that dream a little easier to reach, especially if you’re still in K-12 or university. This initiative is all about equipping young Malaysians with the FinTech and cloud skills needed to snatch those high-paying jobs in the digital economy.

PayNet’s goal is simple: give you the tools to work in Malaysia’s growing tech scene while helping fill the talent gap in the financial industry. And with AWS’s expertise in cloud and generative AI, they’re giving you the know-how to stay ahead of the curve.

AWS re/Start isn’t new to this game — it’s already up and running in over 180 cities across 60 countries, helping 98% of graduates land job interviews. In Malaysia alone, AWS has trained over 100,000 people since 2017. So, if you’re a student looking to build the next big thing in FinTech, this is your chance to do it with the skills that companies are begging for.
