KUCHING, Nov 23: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak has recorded 119 cases with seizures amounting to RM21.5 million since the implementation of Ops Tiris 3.0 from Jan 1 to Nov 20.
In a news report by TVS, Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh revealed that most offenses in Sarawak involved diesel misappropriation and the smuggling of subsidised cooking oil, particularly at border checkpoints.
“In states like Sarawak, with its numerous border entry points, enforcement poses a significant challenge for KPDN and other involved agencies.
“When compared to national figures, Sarawak’s cases and seizure values are quite substantial, contributing to the overall tally of 2,511 cases and RM86.93 million in seizures nationwide,” she stated during a press conference following a working visit to a local supermarket under the Kita Gempur programme on Friday (Nov 22).
Fuziah encouraged the public to report any information or complaints to KPDN regarding misappropriation, leakages, and cartel activities involving controlled and subsidised goods.
The Kita Gempur initiative, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in October, is a strategic government effort to combat manipulation in business activities, prevent leakages, and ensure subsidies reach their intended beneficiaries. — DayakDaily
