KUCHING, July 18: The Kuching Festival Food Fair 2025 will make its much-anticipated return from July 25 to August 17 at Dewan Masyarakat MBKS, featuring 324 stalls, cultural showcases and international culinary highlights that reflect Kuching’s diversity and creativity.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng today expressed appreciation to Magnum for its continuous support spanning more than three decades, as he received a RM45,000 sponsorship in a symbolic handover ceremony this morning.
“This contribution is not merely financial; it is a gesture of trust, shared values and commitment to the community that both MBKS and our partners hold dear,” he said in a speech text made available to the press afterwards.
This year’s fair will host 320 food stalls, three beer stalls, and one dedicated drink stall, offering a wide selection of local and international cuisines.
Among the key attractions is the Chinese Home Cook Delicacy Corner, where various Chinese dialect groups—Hainan, Chawan, Teochew, Hokkien, Hing Ann, Foochow, Kwong Wai Siew and Hakka—will each take turns to present their traditional family recipes over dedicated three-day periods.
“These are not commercial recipes. These are dishes that represent stories, traditions, and family memories. It is our way of preserving culture through food and ensuring our younger generation understands and appreciates the richness of their roots,” Wee said.
The Gastronomy Pavilion will also return, in line with Kuching’s status as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. Sister cities Zhenjiang and Quanzhou from China will be participating and showcasing their culinary arts and culture.
Closer to home, the Bumiputera Corner will highlight traditional dishes from Sarawak’s Malay and Dayak communities. Dishes such as lemang, ayam pansuh, kek lapis, and pansuh will be among those featured.
Wee encouraged the public from across Sarawak and beyond to attend the festival, support local vendors, and celebrate what makes Kuching special.
“Bring your family. Bring your friends. Come and experience the delicious food, the lively atmosphere, the performances and the unity that defines us as Kuchingites,” he urged.
Also present was ENE Sdn Bhd vice president 2 and regional head of East Malaysia, Liew Kee Chuan. — DayakDaily
