Missing worker in Belaga found dead after falling into ravine

KUCHING, July 18: A missing 49-year-old logger who was reported missing when he failed to return to Kem Nibong in Belaga after going out to buy goods and food supplies was found dead at 9.30am today.

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department, the victim, Himang Lisang, was found to have fallen into a ravine approximately 50m below road level, 5km from Kem Nibong.

Based on the chronology of events, at around 4.30pm on July 15, the victim drove a white Toyota Land Cruiser to Anding to purchase goods and food supplies.

The victim was on the way back through Kem Abit but did not reach Kem Nibong. He was feared to have fallen into a ravine between the logging road from Kem Abit to Kem Nibong.

“Efforts to contact him were unsuccessful, and the victim’s colleagues searched along the road from Kem Abit to Kem Nibong but were not able to locate him,” said the report.

A police report was lodged by the company’s manager at the Belaga District Police Headquarters (IPD).

Bomba received a call at 8am today and has mobilised a team to assist in the search and rescue (SAR) operation. — DayakDaily
