KUALA LUMPUR - A housewife pleaded guilty in the High Court here today to two counts of supporting and possessing materials linked to the Daesh terrorist group.
Irma Julyanti Buang, 39, entered the plea after the charges were read to her by a court interpreter before Judge K. Muniandy.
The court then fixed Dec 19 for the mention of the case. Irma Julyanti was accused of giving support to Daesh using the social media applications Facebook, under the name "Bunga Dahlia” and TikTok, under the name "bungadahlia111” at Batu Muda Police Detention Centre, Kuala Lumpur at 10.28am last June 28.
The charge, framed under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, carries a maximum prison sentence of 40 years or a fine and the forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used in committing the offence, upon conviction.
The woman was also charged with possessing materials related to the Daesh terrorist group on her mobile phone and laptop at a house in Felda Moakil, Labis at 7.10am on June 23.
This charge was framed under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment, a fine, and confiscation of property used or intended for the offence, if convicted.
Earlier, the accused’s lawyer, Azfar Asadullah Abdul Sathar, requested the court to set a new mention date, citing the need for more time to review documents related to his client’s guilty plea.
"I need time to review the documents related to the charges before advising my client,” he said, noting that he had just been appointed as the accused’s lawyer.
