7 cops arrested for suspected extortion, molestation of woman

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said police received a report from a 22-year-old woman on Oct 7 alleging that she had been extorted and molested.

A senior police officer with the rank of assistant superintendent and six personnel of the narcotics crime investigation division (NCID) in Cheras have been arrested for suspected involvement in extortion and molestation.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said three other men were also arrested to help in an investigation into an incident that allegedly occurred at a condominium in Cheras, Harian Metro reported.

He added that police received a report from a 22-year-old woman on Oct 7 alleging that she had been extorted and molested.

He said the incident occurred on Oct 1 and that the three men were remanded for three days and subsequently released on police bail.

“Following that, we arrested an assistant superintendent and six officers yesterday. They are in their 30s to 50s.

"They have been remanded for three days from today until Oct 14 to help in an investigation under Sections 384 and 354 of the Penal Code (for extortion and outrage of modesty)," he told reporters today.

According to Rusdi, police are also investigating the alleged wire transfer of money in the case and will also examine CCTV footage.

The report came in late, so we need to investigate in detail why the complainant reported the offence late, he said.
