‘Beyond conversations, crucial to get people to quickly adopt tech’
16 days ago
There are numerous conversations about the latest technologies, but the question remains – how much of the technology discussed is being adopted?
“The conversations (about the latest technologies) are there, but in terms of real adoption, we find there is a problem. We need to find ways to encourage people to adopt technology and implement it successfully,” said Digital Minister, Gobind Singh Deo.
“This initiative needs to be taken not just by the government but by the industry as well … to take steps towards digitalisation. Only then will we begin to see progress. If we can achieve this, we will see things moving much faster.”
Gobind said the Digital Ministry is pushing industries to engage in such initiatives.
“We have drafted policies for sectors that require urgent attention, to prioritise these areas and ensure they have the necessary infrastructure to adopt digital technologies. We must also incentivise them to move forward. Policies are essential for this purpose
“We want to encourage people to adopt and that’s the focus this morning. If everyone can partake in this journey together, I think then you’re going to see the significant move in terms of us pushing the needle of the digital economy.”
Gobind said this after launching Microsoft’s AI & Cloud Summit at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur this morning. The tech company’s ‘AI for Malaysia’s Future’ initiative aimed to equip 800,000 Malaysians with AI skills by the end of 2025.
Later, Gobind flagged off the ministry’s flood relief mission at MoF Inc Tower, at Platinum Park, Kuala Lumpur. Some 100 boxes of essential items will be sent to families affected by the floods in Segamat, Johor.
He added that his ministry and its agencies are ready to provide more assistance to victims, as a second wave of floods is expected to occur this week.
