Malaysian Man In Sibu Slits His Own Throat After Girlfriend Tries To End Relationship

By Dhiviya

A tragic incident unfolded Sunday (8 December) in a city hotel room when a 29-year-old Chinese man took his own life by slitting his throat after a breakup discussion with his girlfriend. The incident, which occurred around 3 pm, highlights the devastating consequences of unresolved emotional distress and conflict.

The deceased reportedly contacted his girlfriend earlier that morning, arranging to meet her at a hotel in the city to discuss their relationship. He checked into a second-floor room at 2 pm, where the couple later met.

During their conversation, the girlfriend revealed her intention to end their relationship due to her parents disapproval. This revelation reportedly triggered a severe emotional reaction in the man. According to sources, he threatened to take his life if his girlfriend did not agree to continue their relationship.

The situation escalated when the man produced a knife and inflicted a fatal wound to his throat. Despite the girlfriend's attempt to intervene, her efforts to stop him were in vain. Overcome with fear, she ran out of the room and sought help from hotel staff.

Hotel staff immediately alerted the authorities. By the time police and medical personnel arrived, the man had succumbed to excessive blood loss. The scene was described as harrowing, with the deceased lying in a pool of blood on the room's floor, wearing a T-shirt and shorts.

Deputy Superintendent Su Yi, Director of Criminal Investigation, oversaw the investigation at the scene. Police are continuing their inquiries into the incident.

Reports indicate the couple had been in a relationship for several years. However, their union had been marred by the disapproval of the woman's family. Friends and acquaintances of the deceased shared that he had previously engaged in self-harm during periods of emotional distress and had sent photos of his injuries to his girlfriend.

The girlfriend, who stayed at the scene, provided a full account of the events to the police. She confirmed the ongoing tensions in their relationship and the deceased's emotional instability.

The deceased's body was transported to the hospital morgue later in the evening, where a forensic autopsy will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
