In the third episode of Get Millie Black, the detective tried to track down Romeo, the little boy who had possibly been abducted by Janet and Freddie. Millie was on a mission, but the only problem was she could not trust the people around her. Curtis was on leave, and Millie had to solve the mystery by herself. Detective Luke Holborn teamed up with her because he believed their goal was the same—to arrest Freddie Somerville. Millie intended to find evidence against Freddie to ensure that he would be detained in Jamaica, whereas Luke planned on returning to London with Freddie so that he could testify against the criminal gang, Sanguis Meridian. Did Millie and Luke find Freddie? And what was Freddie involved in?
Spoiler Alert
Where was Romeo Lawrence?Freddie and Janet were on the run, and Millie was confident that their lawyer, Barrington Heywood, knew about their whereabouts. By the time Millie made it to his house, Heywood had left, and the security guard at the building added that he’d been in a hurry. Millie was convinced that Heywood would destroy piece of evidence against Freddie, and she had to find him before he did so. She rushed to his office, but by the time she got there, the office was on fire. Millie was right; the fire was a tactical move and not an accident. Millie tried to retrieve a hard drive, but she had inhaled too much smoke, and she fell unconscious. She had asked Curtis for help, but soon Millie’s boss found out what Millie was up to. She was strictly instructed not to take risks that could jeopardize her career. Millie headed to the airport when she discovered that Heywood had traveled to the Virgin Islands the previous day. She suspected that he was on his way to Venezuela, where extradition was not the law. The airline staff told Millie that neither Janet nor Freddie was on their passenger list. Millie showed the staff a list of offshore companies that the Somerville family owned, and the staff responded in the affirmative when asked if any of the companies had booked tickets. Blue Ridge Holdings and Somertime Tours had recently booked multiple tickets. This was not the answer Millie had expected, and she requested the staff to print out the passport copies of the international passengers who had boarded their flights. After going through the copies, Millie discovered a passport with Romeo’s photograph but under the alias Anthony Mantel.
According to the information she found, Romeo had been transported to London ten days ago, and it was funded by the Clear Fields Foundation, one of the many shell companies owned by Somerville. He was not alone; after conducting thorough research, Millie discovered that several missing case victims had ended up in London, and she strongly believed it had everything to do with the Somerville family. All this while Millie and Luke had assumed that the shell companies were created to counterfeit or launder money, but after connecting the dots, they had come to realize that the Somerville business was involved in human trafficking. Romeo was the only one who had travelled under an alias, perhaps because he was a minor; the other victims used their own passports. The Somerville family had facilitated a new form of slavery, and Millie was determined to expose the players and bring Romeo home. It was evident that the Somervilles did not operate on their own; they were supplying to ‘someone,’ and Millie’s job was to figure out who it was. Since Freddie was the only living Somerville, he could help Millie solve the puzzle.
How did Alice Bonnett make the most out of the conflict?Freddie had contacted Alice to help him find a place to hide. He was not impressed with the accommodations Alice had arranged, but he did not have much choice. Alice’s intention was clear—all she wanted for herself was the deed to the bar she managed. Since Freddie owned the place, she offered to help him, and in return, she expected him to hand over the deed. She had arranged a boat for Freddie and Janet to escape to Cuba. After she got her hands on the deed, she contacted Millie Black. Alice wanted Freddie to perish, so she told Millie about his escape plan. When Millie and Luke were on their way to the harbor, Luke warned Millie not to call for backup; he believed the chaos would make it easy for Freddie and Janet to escape. He was confident that he and Millie would manage to take down their target.
Towards the end of Get Millie Black episode 3, Millie noticed Freddie and Janet starting the engine of their boat. She approached them, and Freddie pulled his gun out. Millie told them that she had no intention of shooting them; all she wanted was information on Romeo’s whereabouts. She added that if Freddie cooperated, he could have a chance to leave Kingston and move to London, where he would receive witness protection. Soon Millie realised that the case was not as simple as she assumed. There were things she had no clue about, but thankfully Freddie left her a few pieces of the puzzle.
Who was Freddie running from?Freddie confessed that he was the good guy who was trying to stop his family from involving a child in their trade. Janet added that they had no idea where Romeo was. She advised Freddie to shoot down Millie, but the young man was hesitant. He was not as evil as he was portrayed, and he chose not to kill Millie even though he had the opportunity to do so. When Millie suggested calling Luke to help Freddie sort out a way to move to London, Freddie begged her not to call the police officer. He explained that Luke Holborn was the man he was running from. The minute Freddie agreed to cooperate with the Metropolitan police and testify against the Sanguis Meridian gang, his life started to fall apart.
Is Luke Holborn a dirty cop?According to Freddie, Luke Holborn was involved with the UK gang. He provided Sanguis Meridian with insider scoops, and it was possible he traveled to Kingston under their instructions. The plan was to kill Freddie, be it in Kingston or the UK. Throughout the third episode, Luke’s monologue hinted at his hunger to achieve more in life, and in Freddie’s case, he hoped to benefit as a dirty cop. His desperation to earn more resulted in him helping the bad guys and taking a cut for it. Surprisingly, his record was all clean, and he was well-known for busting drug mafias. He was smart enough to keep his image pristine, and perhaps the gang supplied him with leads that resulted in drug busts and promotions. Freddie explained that Luke proposed they meet at his family house, and five minutes from their agreed-upon time, his entire family was killed. Thankfully, Freddie did not trust Luke, and he managed to escape. When Freddie arrived at the Somerville house with Millie, Leddik Somerville was still alive. Luke knew that Leddik would confess the truth to Millie after realizing the danger he was in, and his safest option was to suffocate Leddik before Millie entered the room. Freddie and Janet begged Millie to leave, but the cop refused to let them go unless they told her where Romeo was.
Meanwhile, Luke instigated Stennet, a cop who arrived at the spot after Curtis informed him about the situation, to shoot Freddie even though he repeatedly stated that the angle was not optimal. Luke knew that the more Freddie spoke to Millie, the more she would know about his secrets. He could not risk it, and killing Freddie was his only choice. Before the shot was fired, Freddie told Millie that he did not know what the child had to do with Sanguis Meridian, but he remembered Ahmed (possibly a member of the UK gang) telling him that the child was not for them but for another client, Lindo.
Get Millie Black episode 3 comes to an end with Stennet attempting to shoot Freddie. We do not know if Freddie was killed or if Janet survived. Regardless, Millie’s life will be extremely complicated from this point. She knows Luke’s secret, and she has to find evidence against him and track down Romeo. Given how dangerous Luke is, he will make Millie’s life miserable if she dares to go against him. What started with a missing girl case is turning out to be a human trafficking racket spread across continents. Hopefully, Millie will triumph in the end and bring Romeo home, but given how corrupt the system is, she will have a tough time.
