SHAH ALAM, April 26 — Over 1,000 care centres and nurseries across Selangor have registered with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) as of November 2024, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari.
She said that around 100 more centres are still unregistered, with expectations that many more nurseries are operating without approval.
“The legalisation process will be carried out continuously because we need to review each case. For example, we found that some have applied for care centre grants when their licences are nearly expired,” Anfaal said.
She was speaking to the press after officiating the closing ceremony of the Selangor Care Economy Empowerment Seminar at the State Secretariat Building today.
Attended by 347 nursery operators from across the state, the programme aimed to ease the registration process for care centre owners, in addition to sharing knowledge on management practices.
In February, Anfaal announced that guidelines to standardise and simplify the nursery registration process in Selangor would be released in July.
She said the guidelines — intended to boost the number of registered nurseries — will be developed in collaboration with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health.
