No Gazans have received aid this week, says Red Crescent

GENEVA, May 23 — The president of the Palestine Red Crescent Society has claimed that no civilians in Gaza have received any of the humanitarian aid that crossed the border this week, warning that the limited deliveries could trigger chaos and violence.

“I can prove that nobody has received (aid). No civilian has received anything yet,” Younis Al Khatib told reporters during a press briefing in Geneva on Thursday.

“Most of these trucks are still in Kerem Shalom at the border, inspected, but not into Gaza,” he said, as quoted by Anadolu Ajansi (AA).

Al Khatib described the situation on the ground as catastrophic and said the minimal aid entering the territory is worsening the crisis.

“I think that is an invitation for killing. These people are starving,” he warned, adding that severe food shortages were already claiming lives.

He cited reports indicating that 90 per cent of children in Gaza were on the verge of starvation.

“Today, we are hearing news about kids dying from starvation. It’s very difficult to hide the rush and the looting that will happen,” he said.

In a separate briefing also held in Geneva, Palestinian Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan said 29 people, including children and elderly, had died in recent days due to hunger-related conditions.

“In the last couple of days, we lost 29 innocent children and the elderly,” he said, describing them as “starvation-related deaths.”
