Jalan Genting Peras repair delays due to slope risks — Amirudin

BANGI, June 13 — Ongoing delays in restoring Jalan Genting Peras, which links Hulu Langat in Selangor to Jelebu in Negeri Sembilan, are due to urgent slope reinforcement works, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Responding to a call by his Negeri Sembilan counterpart Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to expedite repairs, Amirudin said the main challenge lies in strengthening slopes along the route, which were severely impacted by a landslide in 2021.

“The issue is not just about levelling the road. It’s about reinforcing slopes to prevent future landslides.

“If we rush repairs without addressing the root cause, we risk worsening the situation,” he said in a press conference before the soft launch of the Selangor Techsphere Summit at Tenara Hotel here today.

Amirudin added that although the landslide occurred in Selangor territory, Negeri Sembilan suffered, too, due to downstream effects.

“The impact point was in Selangor, but the damage was felt in Negeri Sembilan. That’s why proper engineering solutions are necessary, not just surface-level fixes,” he said.

Amirudin said this was brought up to the Public Works Department, and assured that clarification would soon be given in writing to Aminuddin by state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim.

“It’s a work in progress. Just like how we managed the Batang Kali landslide recovery successfully, this, too, requires a careful, structured approach,” he said.

On Wednesday, Aminuddin urged Selangor to prioritise repairs to the road, which has been closed since 2021 after a landslide along the Genting Peras-Kuala Klawang stretch.

He said the Kuala Klawang section, which is under Negeri Sembilan’s jurisdiction, has been repaired, and that fully reopening the route is crucial for district-to-district connectivity.

The landslide on December 19, 2021, led to the closure of both lanes on Jalan Genting Peras.
