iPhone 17 Pro Max battery capacity might have just leaked

Apple will announce its iPhone 17 lineup in September, and rumors indicate the iPhone 17 Pro Max will get thicker and heavier to gain a larger battery this year. But just today, we might have found out how much larger that battery will be.

In a new post on Weibo, leaker Instant Digital gives us an idea of what to expect from the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s larger battery.

He says it’s expected to have capacity of ~5,000mAh, which easily makes it the largest battery ever in an iPhone.

5,000 likely isn’t the exact number, but rather a close estimate. However, it still gives us a good idea of what to expect from the new Pro Max model.

For comparison, here are the numbers from the last few years:

Depending on how close to 5,000 the final number ends up being, we could be looking at almost a 10% increase in capacity.

It’s important to note, however, that a battery’s capacity doesn’t have a 1:1 correlation with battery life improvements.

The larger battery will certainly give the iPhone 17 Pro Max improved battery life. But the exact increase in time of use will be determined by various other factors, including iOS 26 optimizations.

But if you just want the longest lasting iPhone, the 17 Pro Max will be an easy choice as it extends its battery life lead.
