GEDONG, July 7: Gedong is set to see the construction of a new mosque, integrated administrative centre and community complex within the next two to three years, with early site works such as land clearing and sand filling already underway.
Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, who is the special representative of the Sarawak Premier in Gedong, said the projects are part of a phased development strategy under the Sarawak government’s initiative to spur growth and uplift facilities in the area.
“In two to three years’ time, these buildings will start to emerge one by one. For now, only groundwork is visible, but after this, the mosque, admin centre and community complex will begin to rise,” he said, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).
He made these remarks after leading a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex today.
Also present were Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee and over 50 delegates comprising community leaders (KMKK) from Gedong, as well as representatives from political party wings.
Naroden also revealed several major infrastructure packages in the pipeline, including a four-lane highway from Serian via Munggu Kupi to Isthmus, and from Isthmus to Gobilt through Tanjung Embang, which will also feature a dedicated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) lane.
“These are all in the early stages of construction. The third package will involve road upgrades from Isthmus to Samarahan via the existing road, and the fourth will link Isthmus to Simunjan,” he said.
He stressed that the Isthmus area will become a new strategic growth centre that will directly benefit Gedong and its people.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak Premier also shared plans to establish a direct air cargo service from Kuching to Singapore to boost access to international markets for local products.
“This will create great opportunities for agropreneurs and small industries to export their goods more efficiently,” Naroden added. — DayakDaily
