An 18-year-old in Kuantan, Pahang, may face a 5-year prison term after he was caught performing dangerous stunts during an illegal race.

Acting Kuantan District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud, said the 18-year-old was arrested at about 6.56 PM. The teenager involved was arrested and investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding, and carries a prison sentence of up to 5 years and a fine of up to RM15,000 if convicted.

The police are conducting Op Samseng Jalanan following public complaints going viral on social media regarding illegal racing activities and dangerous motorcycle stunts that often occur every weekend around Kuantan city.

Mohd Adli said the most common offence was using a registration number that did not comply with specifications, with 52 summonses issued for that, followed by no side mirrors (41 summonses) and noisy exhaust (32 summonses).

In the operation, 24 motorcycles were seized.

Adli also reminded road users not to drive or ride dangerously, which could risk the lives of other road users, reported Sinar Harian and a Facebook post by the Kuantan’s Traffic Police Department.

Adli also said the police will continuously increase patrols and raids around the hotspots where the illegal activities take place.
