First Madani Park in Kepong to house pickleball courts

PETALING JAYA, July 24 — The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) has approved a RM500,000 allocation to upgrade the Taman Indah Perdana field in Kepong to a Malaysia Madani Park, to provide more comprehensive recreational facilities to residents.

Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) Zone 12 councillor U Chin Ong said the project, which kicked off June 23 and whose completion is slated for September, is the first Madani Park in the Bukit Lanjan state constituency.

U said the park will host various facilities including a gazebo, 700m pedestrian walkway, two pickleball courts, outdoor exercise equipment, and solar-powered streetlights.

“This 2.5 acre (1ha) park … already had several facilities such as a playground and basketball and badminton courts, but because of the lack of parking lots at the nearby residential area, some use this field as a temporary parking space, affecting its original use as a recreational area.

“After considering the community’s needs, MPS has applied for allocations from the KPKT and was successfully granted RM500,000 to upgrade the field as a Malaysia Madani Park,” he said.

U added that even though the Taman Indah Perdana residential area only has around 200 homes and isn’t that dense, the park is expected to benefit all Kepong dwellers.

“With the rising number of senior citizens in the area, the need for senior-friendly recreational parks is urgent, so MPS is committed to upgrading existing recreational facilities to provide more comfortable public spaces for all ages,” he said.

He also urged residents to appreciate the public facilities provided and not vandalise them.

“I hope that after the park is completed, residents can take care of and make use of the facilities properly,” U said.
