10yo boy drowns at Lutong Beach in Miri

KUCHING, July 29: A 10-year-old boy drowned while swimming with two friends at Lutong Beach in Miri today.

According to Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the Lutong Police Station received a report at 4.36pm.

The boy, a student of SK Lutong, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

“The incident is currently being investigated as a sudden death (SDR) case,” he said in a statement.

Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Husaini bin Amin, at 019-8889530 or 085-655202 or report to the nearest police station.

Police have also advised the public against spreading speculation or sensitive content about the case on social media, which may cause unnecessary distress to the community.

Parents and guardians are reminded to closely supervise children during beach outings, especially given the unpredictable weather conditions, strong winds, and rough seas currently affecting the area. — DayakDaily
