Gboard suggestions are now pills, getting simplified settings
4 days ago
With the Pixel 10 series, Gboard introduced generative AI-powered Writing tools and a Smart Edit voice experience. All Gboard users are now seeing some visual tweaks, with reorganized settings also coming.
Gboard suggestions are now placed in pill-shaped containers instead of rounded rectangles. This applies to regular paste suggestions from your clipboard and Magic Cue + Pixel Screenshots on the Pixel 10 series.
After appearing on the beta channel, this is now going live for stable users (version 15.8.4).
A bigger update sees Gboard simplify Settings, particularly “Preferences.” There are various title and description tweaks, as well as new sections. “Layout” shows the “Suggestion strip” toggle that was previously on a different page, while a lot has been placed in “Shortcuts” and “Key tap.”

This helps centralize common settings and saves people from having to dive any deeper.
The other reorganization is “Text correction” becoming “Corrections & suggestions.” This page is now divided into Automatic corrections, Spelling & grammar, Suggestions, and Writing tools (on Pixel 10 and QPR2 Beta to replace Proofread). What’s new is a standalone on/off toggle for “Word suggestions: Show in suggestion strip.”
We’re seeing this in the beta channel (version 15.8.5) for all devices.
