'Dexter: Resurrection' Episode 10 Theories: Will Harrison Kill Leon Prater?
So, what’s Dexter Morgan going to do next? That’s the question that came to our minds when we last saw Dex screaming in pain and anger. It was one of the few moments in Dex’s life when he felt truly helpless. [Spoiler Alert] His old pal, Angel Batista, was taking his last breath, and Dex so badly wanted to convince him that he didn’t kill their common friend, James Doakes, or have any hand in the death of Batista’s ex-wife, Maria LaGuerta. We, as viewers, know that Dex lives by a code. He only hunts down serial killers or people who have hurt someone. But that was too much information to convey to a dying man. Dex tried to explain, but Batista still held him accountable, and you all heard his dying words. In the past, a similar thing had happened with Harrison. He accused his father of killing his mom, Rita, and we all know how that ended. Dex was ready to give his life to prove to his son that he was innocent, and now that history has repeated itself, I believe Mr. Leon Prater has unknowingly stirred up a whirlwind he won’t be able to contain. He has, in fact, reminded Dex of one of his worst nemesis, the Trinity Killer. So, back to the big question, what’s Dex going to do next?
I think the answer is obvious. Dex will do anything in his power to take down Prater, not only because he killed his friend in front of his eyes, but also because he has threatened to harm his family. However, the more important question here is, how is he going to do that? So there’s this promo video for the next episode that Paramount/Showtime releases after the week’s episode has come out, and as per the promo trailer for episode 10, Dexter: Resurrection’s finale is going to be centered around that much-talked-about gala that Prater has been sponsoring for the NYPD officers who have been injured in the line of duty. In the teaser, one can spot some familiar faces like Det. Claudette Wallace, her colleague Melvin Oliva, and Harrison, who is serving champagne to the guests. You may remember that this gala is being organized at the Empire Hotel, where Harrison works, so his presence here is no surprise. However, Harrison looks a bit lost and frightened, which I assume has something to do with the call Dex made to Harrison in the very next shot.
The 30-second teaser reveals that Dex called Harrison and told him about Batista’s death. He fears that Prater is going to kill him next, though I hardly believe that’s what Prater wants. You see, Prater’s the kind of man who likes to collect, and Dex is definitely one of his most prized possessions. He is not going to dispose of him just like that. He’ll keep him locked away in his trophy room and try to break his spirit to convince the man to work for him, but we know Dex will never bend to his wishes, so there’s no point discussing the impossible.
In one of the shots in the teaser, Dex finds a closed envelope with several photographs in it. It seems like someone, most likely Prater’s henchwoman, Charley, has been keeping an eye on him for a very long time. I guess one of these pictures is from Lady Vengeance’s apartment, from when Dex broke into her house to plant Ryan Foster’s watch in her trophy box to frame her for his murder. In the teaser, Dex tells Harrison, “That thing for justice. Maybe it runs in the family.” Well, is Dex trying to convince Harrison to come to Prater’s penthouse, where he has been locked up, and rescue him from there? In the next shot, we see Harrison, wearing AirPods, sneaking out of the Gala through the hotel’s backdoor, and later we see him picking locks. However, Prater spots Harrison leaving the party, and Charley goes after him, so we don’t know if he will be able to rescue his dad or not. In the next shot, we even see Claudette and Melvin running up the stairs. It seems like they heard a gunshot or something. And then we have Charley pointing a gun at someone; most likely Harrison. In the background, we hear Prater saying that “it’s time for the world to see the real Leon Prater.” But what does that mean? Is he speaking about his alter ego, the New York Ripper, or does he mean the other side of Prater, the one who is fascinated by serial killers and stuff? The teaser ends with Dex saying, “This was not on my list of ways to die.” But we know he’s not going to die, nor is any harm going to befall Harrison, because the father-son duo have more bonding to do, which I believe will be further explored in Dexter: Resurrection season 2.
But who’s going to die then? Well, my theory is Charley’s going to switch sides. She’s going to betray Prater and kill him in the trophy room. The very same room that Prater loved the most and Charley detested. And at the end of the day, Claudette and Melvin will arrive there and see a gun in Charley’s hand and arrest her for Prater’s murder.
A second theory is that it is Harrison who kills Prater, and Dex will somehow frame Charley for the murder. However, I am willing to bet that she will either take the blame for Prater’s murder or kill him herself, because in that way she won’t rat out Dex to the police. We all know that Charley knows everything about Dex, and unlike Batista, Charley even has evidence to send him to prison, but she won’t do it, because we really want to see our antagonist in the next season, so Dex is definitely going to find a way out of this mess. However, before wrapping up, I do want to bring up a point. I know most of you will be wondering why the hell Dex dragged Harrison into this mess. Throughout the show, he kept saying that he wants to keep his serial-killing business and family separate, but every time he ends up mixing up the two, and it is his loved ones who have to pay the price. I think Dex doesn’t have any option either. He has no friends or family. He cannot call Blessing Kamara to save him, right? But I think Dex could have called the police instead of calling Harrison because, you see, one wrong step, and Harrison can lose his life. Will Dex, being a father, ever be able to forgive him for such a mistake? I don’t think so.
Well, with that said, these are all my theories based on the promo of the finale episode, but I would love to hear what your expectations are for the ending of Dexter: Resurrection season 1. So don’t be shy, and feel free to comment below.
