Sabah DAP hit by resignations as Frankie Poon, allies exit party ahead of state election

SANDAKAN, Oct 11 — Former Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Frankie Poon announced his resignation from the party today, saying recent internal developments had forced his hand.

Poon, who is also the incumbent Tanjung Papat assemblyman, quit together with former Sabah DAP secretary for organisational affairs Liau Fui Fui and two party branches under his leadership, The New Straits Times reported this afternoon.

“This decision was not made hastily, but after carefully evaluating recent internal developments within the party,” they were quoted saying in a joint statement.

They claimed that “implicit actions by certain party leaders” suggested “a hidden agenda to replace the current leadership in Tanjung Papat without any formal discussion or consultation.”

The pair also accused the state party leadership of sidelining veteran members in favour of younger faces.

“This shows a lack of appreciation for senior members who have dedicated years of service,” they were quoted as saying.

Poon and Liau said they would continue serving the people independently of DAP.

“Political platforms may change, but our dedication to serving the people remains the priority,” they added.

The resignations come after the Sabah Legislative Assembly dissolved on October 6 to pave the way for a state election; the date has yet to be announced.
