JPJ seizes 10 vehicles in crackdown on illegal private taxis in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized ten vehicles during a targeted operation against illegal “prebet sapu” drivers in the city here yesterday.

The joint operation, codenamed Ops Fokus (Prebet Sapu) Bil. 3/2025, was carried out around Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail following public complaints.

“Prebet sapu” refers to illegal private taxi services, essentially unlicensed individuals using their personal vehicles or rented ones to transport passengers for a fee.

JPJ Federal Territory director Hamidi Adam said investigations found several drivers operating without valid licences and misusing motor vehicle permits.

Among the offenders were five foreign nationals from Bangladesh, Yemen, India and Sudan, alongside five Malaysians.

In total, 27 vehicles were inspected and 26 summonses issued for various offences.

JPJ also detained vehicles for violations such as the absence of driving licences, operator permits (KPA) and misuse of road tax.

Hamidi said owners who allow their vehicles to be driven illegally by foreigners would face legal action.

He added that JPJ will continue to intensify enforcement to protect road users and uphold Malaysia’s transport system integrity.
