A house in Port Dickson caught fire and claimed the life of a 51-year-old man, who was home alone when the incident occurred at around 8:30 AM today (12 October).
The fire broke out in one of three wooden houses built in a row. Preliminary investigations suggest it originated from cooking equipment in the kitchen, where liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders were found.
5% of the scene was burned
Upon receiving the report at 8:50 AM, the Port Dickson Fire and Rescue Department dispatched fire trucks and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) to the scene. They arrived in under 10 minutes, and the fire was extinguished by 9:09 AM.
According to the Fire Department, approximately 5% of the property was burned, and the fire was already under control before the fire brigade arrived. The victim was found dead in the kitchen. It is understood that he lived with his family, but at the time of the incident, they were away, leaving him alone at home.
Medical personnel who arrived at the scene confirmed that the man showed no vital signs.
According to villagers, a neighbour saw flames coming from the house and, with the help of others, entered the property to check. They found the man collapsed in the kitchen with visible burn marks on his body, China Press reported.
