Elderly man accidentally steps on gas pedal, crashes into gas station

AN elderly man was slightly injured after the car he was driving crashed into the glass door of a petrol station in Pekan Permas, Pontian on Monday.
Pontian District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the accident at about 10.30am involved a car driven by an 86-year-old local man.
“Initial investigations found that the driver was travelling from his home to a petrol station in Pekan Permas
“Upon arriving at the location, he is believed to have pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal, causing his vehicle to move forward and crash into the glass door and enter the shop area of the petrol station,” he said in a statement.
According to him, the driver suffered minor injuries to his right leg and was allowed to return home after receiving treatment at Pontian Hospital.
“The case is being investigated under Rule 10, Road Traffic Rules 1957 and action can be taken under Section 119 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said. – October 28, 2025
