Kids Of Single M'sian Mum Walk 6km To School & Back As She Can't Afford Transportation Fees | WeirdKaya

A single mother had no choice but to let her children walk several kilometres to school and back home as her financial situation prevented her from paying for their transportation.

Thankfully, her plight caught the attention of a politician who immediately stepped in to help her and the family.

Walked 6km daily to school and back

According to China Press, the mother does not have a stable income and works as a part-time delivery rider.

Thus, she couldn’t afford paying transportation fees for her two school-going children, who have to walk a total of six kilometres from their home in Sungai Long to their school located at Bandar Mahkota Cheras and back home.

But despite the hardships, the mother was determined to not let her financial situation prevent her children from getting an education.

ADUN offers help

The mother’s plight eventually reached the ears of Balakong assemblyperson Ong Chun Wei, who paid the family a visit during Deepavali.

He paid another visit yesterday (Oct 28) and came with new school bags he bought for the kids using his own funds.

Speaking to the Chinese daily, Ong said the mother only has one motorcycle and brings along her two and three-year-old to work, leaving the older ones with no option but to walk to school.

He added that on days where she has more money to spare, she would book an e-hailing ride to take her kids to school.

“With two months left in the school year, I’ve already paid for their transportation fees. Starting today, someone will be driving the children to and from school,” he added.
