'Rulers Of Fortune' Season 2 Theories: Will Profeta Succeed in His Plans?
The Netflix Brazilian original show Rulers Of Fortune is a crime thriller that most likely didn’t sweep you off your feet, but there’s still room for improvement. The show ends on a high note that can be interpreted as both an ending and the beginning of something new. While Jefferson accomplishes his mission of joining the Board, this is only the start of his empire building mission. Shame the man who killed his father is dead already, or that would’ve been the next step for him, of course. But Galego is still around, so that’s what real revenge will look like, right? Additionally, he’s hiding the fact that he knows who his mother is from Leila, so it’s going to be interesting to see when he’ll reveal this information to her and how, because he’s obviously got some sort of a plan. But with that said, let’s jump into all our theories about a potential season 2.
Spoiler Alert
Esquelato Will Be Jefferson and Nelinho’s Biggest NightmareThe second Moraes brother, Esquelato, often felt sidelined and ignored by his family. There was this need in him to prove himself and grab what he could. Nelinho was the big, strong, intimidating one, and his adoptive little brother Jefferson was Profeta, the man who could tell the future. Plus, Esquelato is gay, and he felt like that was something that kept him out of the spotlight. This motivated him to conspire with the man he called the love of his life, Sombra, right from the start of the show. When Jefferson organizes the theft of the Board’s slot machines, Esquelato is expected to destroy them, but instead, he and Sombra sell them for a bit of cash on the side. This comes back to bite them later, and Sombra is thrown out of a moving car as punishment by the people he considers his own family. He ends up betraying them to Bufalo, but the plan fails, and Sombra gets murdered for selling out to the enemy. With the love of his life dead, Esquelato goes to his dad, Nelio, asking if he’d sanctioned the hit on Sombra, but Nelio throws Jefferson under the bus and lies that he wasn’t told about it. For some reason, he even calls his own son a coward to his face, tossing in a few homophobic slurs aimed at Sombra too, riling Esquelato up for no reason. He storms off, but we can expect him to return with a vengeance next season, maybe leading a rival gang. Esquelato isn’t allowed to do much in the first season of the show, too, so it’ll be interesting to see him take center stage.
Nelinho Might Fall In LoveGerson’s daughter, Tamires, was eager to get involved with Jefferson’s gang, perhaps especially because her mother had never let her work with her dad in the past. Of course, she had good reason to keep her away from this dirty business, as the girl ends up getting held hostage and having to participate in an assassination plot at gunpoint. Thankfully, she makes it through nearly unharmed, but her mother sees the scar on her forehead and kicks her out of the house until she decides to give up on working for Jefferson. That’s when Tamires basically invites herself into Nelinho’s flat, talking about how it’s too big a place for a bachelor like him to be living in alone.
Though he initially rejects her offer to rent a room there, you can tell by the look on his face that he’s interested in her, or at least drawn to her as a human being. At the end of the season, he walks up to her himself and gives her a spare key to his apartment. And hey, love might be in the air now, but when you’re working with a gang, complication’s always right around the corner. Technically, Jefferson is responsible for Gerson’s death; if he’d never hit the Board shipment of slot machines, Gerson would never have been suspected of being a traitor. So even though Jefferson didn’t pull the trigger himself, he might as well have. And if Tamires finds out, now that she has close access to a member of his family, she could become a really dangerous figure.
Mirna Might Recognize Jefferson’s True FaceMirna started out thinking of Jefferson as a boytoy she could mess around with until she decided he could be the instrument that would get her influence on the Board. The trouble is, she’s not the only woman using him for access to the Board; she doesn’t know that Leila was the one who pointed him towards Mirna in the first place, pushing him to use her on his way up. Nor does she know that Leila is Jefferson’s mother and so technically now her mother-in-law? It’s a messy situation. But she’s okay with him as long as she thinks she’s the one playing him. There are two secrets that could change that equation, though. The first is that he was the one who stole the Board’s machines back before Suzana’s wedding, disrupting their family’s business. That would mean he had control of the gameboard even before they’d met, and he’d been manipulating her from the start. But what would break her heart even more would be the realization that Suzana didn’t just leave by herself; Jefferson forced the only family she had left in the world to go into exile never to see her sister again. This revelation would shatter the bond of trust and even love that’s formed between the couple over the show.
The French Will Be Out For RevengeLaurent had been sent to Brazil by Jean-Luc as an ambassador of the French mafia, who wanted to invest in gambling in the country, but Galego and the Board had tried to scam him out of his money right at the start of the season, alienating him. Galego told his wife, Leila, to smooth things over by seducing Laurent, though, and she didn’t have to work hard to find her way into his bed, establishing her hold over him. But when she discovers he’s planning to have Jefferson, her son, killed, she decides to poison him and pin the blame on the captain of his yacht. This brings Jean-Luc straight to Brazil, and Galego and the Board realize how bad this looks for them, so they offer him their full cooperation, though they’re very vain about how much control they hold over Rio. Eventually, they discover that the substance found in Laurent’s blood isn’t the kind of medication normally used to poison people. Perhaps in the next season, they’ll trace this medication all the way to Leila and realize she’s responsible for the missing 15 million Jean-Luc is here sniffing around about. Leila and Jefferson might have to join hands and take on the French mafia. Maybe we’ll even see an episode where they end up on the French Riviera? That would be fun.
Santiago Might Want To Be A Bigger Part Of The BusinessSantiago thought he was doomed to be sidelined forever, especially after his father, Galego, realized he’d been stealing from him. But his uncle Xavier gave him a path back into the halls of power by asking for him to be made the samba club captain just before his death, a wish Galego had no way of refusing. Santiago doesn’t know that Jefferson’s his half-brother, but he does know that he’s the same age as him and had a meteoric rise in Rio’s underworld, so he’s definitely jealous. Next season might see him trying to follow in his footsteps, or maybe even replace him; regardless, his ego’s going to come into play and set some fireworks off.
