'Zomvivor' Ending Explained And Season 2 Theories

Can a group of college students survive a zombie apocalypse? Netflix’s new Thai show, Zomvivor, is about a bunch of students trapped inside their college that was declared ground zero for the new epidemic. While most of the students and faculty members of the college had already turned into zombies, a handful of students managed to escape from the bloodthirsty creatures. The students faced significant challenges due to limited resources, government negligence, and a general lack of understanding about the epidemic’s origin. Moreover, the survivors were far from close friends, which led to tension, mistrust, and frequent arguments. The article takes a close look at the ending of Zomvivor and predicts the possibility of an upcoming season.

Spoiler Alert

Why was Non injected with the infected blood?

Ning came across a pen drive in the laboratory that belonged to Dr. Wiroj, and that was how she came to find out how the epidemic started. But the rest had no clue what was going on, and they tried to make sense of the situation by observing the zombies. They had discovered that the zombies became more aggressive in high temperatures, showing that they weren’t entirely emotionless. They followed a daily routine, seemed to share emotional connections, and tended to calm down whenever it rained or the weather cooled. Most importantly, they realized the group had a pack leader—Aunty Jit. She was the first candidate who was injected with the serum, and visibly she was the most respected member of the zombie clan. She even showed motherly affection—offering her children a portion of her food. Non, San, Thorn, Thi, and the rest arrived at the conclusion that they must hold Aunty Jit captive because clearly she shared a bond with the rest of them. They decided to hold Aunty Jit captive so that they could study her and understand the behavioral pattern of the rest, and perhaps they also hoped that the clan would become directionless without their leader. But unfortunately, things didn’t go according to plan.

Ning and Jean unexpectedly ran into Aunty Jit, and to protect his sister, Non stepped in. The rest tried to stop Aunty Jit from attacking Non, and Jean ended up shooting the zombie in the head. The survivors were displeased with how things panned out, and they blamed Ning and Jean for it. They concluded that their only remaining solution was to find the zombie directly infected by Aunty Jit, as it would likely assume the position of leader. Since that was almost like finding a needle in a haystack, Ning offered to inject herself with Aunty Jit’s blood. Although there was no proof that their idea would work, they didn’t really have a choice. They hoped that whoever was infected by Aunty Jit’s blood would become essential to the zombie pack. Ning was about to inject herself with the infected blood, but Jean stopped her. He held Non at gunpoint and suggested that if one of them had turned into a zombie to prove her loyalty and guilt, then they must all die. Jean suspected that Ning was simply running away from the problem, and he demanded that she instead stay and help them find a solution. Soon a zombie entered the room, and chaos ensued. A gunshot was fired, and the sound attracted all the zombies in the college premises.

The survivors managed to make it to the terrace, and they noticed a helicopter approaching them. Turns out, Dr. Wiroj and two armed men were seated inside. As soon as Wiroj noticed Ning (with Joe’s serum in her hand), he asked the pilot to land on the terrace. Ning climbed into the helicopter, but the rest were not allowed to enter. Wiroj begged Non to join them, but he refused. Instead, he was injected with the infected blood of Aunty Jit. It was evident that Wiroj would only help them if someone he cared about was in danger, so turning Non into a zombie was the only option they had left. Non was tired of living in his sister’s shadows; for the first time he decided to make a choice on his own, and his deep attachment to San was also why he decided to make the sacrifice.

Will Ning And Dr. Wiroj Find A Cure?

Zomvivor ends on an abrupt note, which suggests that the series will likely return with a season two. The ending confirms that Non had turned into a zombie and he was held captive by the survivors. As was expected, the zombies started to circle around Non, and it looks like he’s probably the new pack leader. The survivors can closely observe his behavioral pattern and also come up with ways to handle the rest of the zombies. Magic mushrooms have proved to be effective on the zombies, so maybe the survivors will forcefully make Non consume mushrooms time and again to keep him calm.

In Zomvivor’s ending, we discovered that Non was Wiroj and Kanchana’s son, so naturally the doctor will do everything in his power to rescue his Non. During the final scene of season 1, we learn that after a month of staying at the hospital where Kanchana and Joe were being treated, Ning and Wiroj managed to escape. It is likely that they’d been begging Phumtham Kiatpipat to help the students trapped in his college, but the patron didn’t care. He thought it would be a waste of his resources and time, and he won’t care if the military killed even the uninfected students trapped on the college premises. Wiroj and Ning likely escaped from the facility to help Non and the rest. Considering it was impossible to formulate customized serums for every infected individual, maybe in the last month, Wiroj and Ning worked on an antidote that had the potential to work on recently affected individuals. After Non chose to sacrifice himself for the greater good, Ning likely felt extremely guilty for abandoning her friends. She innocently assumed they would all be rescued, but clearly that had never been the intention. So, Ning has a lot to prove to her friends, and she has to make sure that her brother survived the epidemic. Maybe as soon as Ning heads back to ground zero, she will be ostracized by the survivors, but hopefully the cure can help her win back their trust. Non has no idea that he is Wiroj’s son and that he and Ning are step-siblings. The truth is definitely going to affect him, but hopefully surviving the crisis together is going to bring the family close, and they’ll hopefully learn to forgive one another. But can they rescue Non, who’d already converted? Hopefully his father and sister have come up with a plan.

Is Kanchana completely cured?

During Zomvivor’s ending, Kanchana finally regains consciousness after months of staying in a coma. Wiroj had already injected her with the improved serum, and it has clearly helped her heal from the Anisong serum that she’d previously injected. When Kanchana opened her eyes, her one pupil had turned blue just like the zombies. It seems in an attempt to be worshipped, a new species has been born. They were half humans and half zombies. They could probably feel emotions, and at the same time they were immortals. Perhaps shooting them in the head was the only way to get rid of them completely (or at least that is the safest bet for now). The zombies could heal their wounds, and that is enough reason to consider that they were immortals, but of course there must be a catch. A formulation that could destroy the parasites? That seems like the only solution. Kanchana and Joe will never be completely human. We don’t know yet if the chemicals have also impacted their behavioral pattern. Perhaps they have retained the intelligence and emotional quotient of humans, and maybe they will also be cannibals like the zombies and possibly have some remnant of the parasite (if the Anisong serum formulation consisted of the infected immortal jellyfish). Considering how desperate powerful men such as Phumtham Kiatpipat are for immortality, will they ever care about the drawbacks of such a serum? Even if they might have to indulge in occasional cannibalism, maybe they’ll choose that over dying and decaying.

Will the students survive the zombie epidemic?

The students trapped on the college premises have very limited resources; therefore, they need to find a solution, and it has to be immediate. The chemical formula of castor beans, blackboard tree, and psilocybe mushrooms that one of the students had discovered to spray and kill the zombies might come in handy to bring down the zombie population. Considering that for a month they had been fighting the zombies with barely enough food to keep them alive, it can be assumed that in season 2 the students will be extremely drained. They will be defensive if Ning and Wiroj come to rescue them after abandoning them a month ago. An antidote is the need of the hour, and perhaps the answer was in the immortal jellyfish! The zombies aren’t completely emotionless; it’s almost as if they’ve retained some parts of their human selves, which is why they went on to resume their daily routine every morning, they at times even recognized people, they felt an emotional connection with each other, and they worked together to gather food like a community. It was probably the parasite that unified them (similar to the Cordyceps in The Last Of Us), and they worked together as one complete unit. The series arrives at the idea that the plan was to not just kill the zombies but to create an antidote. While those completely affected by the parasite cannot be turned into humans, those recently infected might be cured. Until then, the students have to keep targeting the zombies in the head because clearly that is the only way to get rid of them!
