Inside the Dewar’s Discovery Flight Experience Above KL
1 day ago
The word “flight” takes on new meaning with the Dewar’s Discovery Flight and we were there to experience it all.
When we hear the word “flight” in the context of liquor, we think of a sampling board that gives us a taste of the label’s best in show. However, iconic Scotch whisky house Dewar’s decided to take it to new heights with an exclusive helicopter ride above the Kuala Lumpur skyline. The mission here? Bring us passengers on a ride to experience the city from a whole new perspective in the name of discovery.
It all began on a drizzly Tuesday morning. We were joined by friends of Dewar’s Thanuja Ananthan, Brian See, and Roberto Guiati as the cohort arrived at the Saujana Golf & Country Club, ready to take to the skies. The experience as a whole was one to remember, and we tell you all about it below!
PRE-FLIGHT PREPWhile waiting for the skies to clear, we started catching up with the Dewar’s team and the three personalities who were coming along for the ride. We were also presented with pre-flight documents to look over before takeoff, including a personalised Dewar’s passport and boarding pass. There were also bottles of Dewar’s prepped for us to admire and look forward to for post-flight toasts. Eventually, we were ready to board the helicopter!
THE DEWAR’S DISCOVERY FLIGHTFor most of us, this was our first-ever helicopter ride, but even those who had done it before were buzzing with anticipation. Walking to the helicopter was an experience in itself with the wind blowing through our hair and the sound of the spinning blades thundering across the grounds. After taking our places and completing safety checks, we were prepped for lift-off.
The excitement was palpable in the cockpit. Our flight mates were peering out their window with awe—and we had barely left the Saujana Golf & Country Club perimeter. In a matter of minutes, we found ourselves circling some of the city centre’s tallest skyscrapers, including the record-breaking Merdeka 118 and Tun Razak Exchange. Seeing the city beneath our feet was unlike anything we’ve experienced before. As we viewed our home through this new vantage point, we reflected on how much it has grown and the potential that it holds within its streets. We also snickered at the midday traffic that we were gleefully skipping out on.
After the city centre tour, we were on to greener pastures—literally—as we headed for the Klang Gates Dam and The Mines. During this portion of the flight, we got to catch a glimpse of The Mines Resort & Golf Club, the lush greenery around the Klang Gates Dam, and more. Aside from taking photos and videos, we also spent a chunk of the journey trying to identify roads, buildings, and landmarks from above. Before we headed back, we made sure to also stamp our Dewar’s passport as an official indicator that we completed our Dewar’s Discovery Flight.
POST-FLIGHT TOAST & THOUGHTSIn true Dewar’s fashion, we celebrated the landing with a drink once we got back to the lounge area. We sipped on a special landing drink dubbed “The Rendang Nation” and raved about our respective experiences aboard the helicopter. The cocktail was the perfect way to be welcomed back on ground, made with a Dewar’s 15 Years Old base as an ode to one of Malaysia’s most iconic dishes, rendang.
While we all had our own takeaways and highlight moments, we all agreed that it was a journey that was truly reflective of the Dewar’s spirit. Dedicated to discovery, learning new perspectives, and allowing our aspirations to take flight, Dewar’s believes in the power of exceptional experiences to broaden our horizons. As we quite literally gained a new view of our city from thousands of feet above sea level, we were also forging new bonds and establishing new memories with the help of the Dewar’s Discovery Flight.
No drinks were consumed before & during the helicopter ride. Enjoy responsibly. Dewar’s Blended Scotch Whisky is for non-Muslims aged 21 and above only.
