1 Hotel Mayfair Redefines Sustainable Luxury in London

If your idea of a great stay goes beyond thread count, chances are 1 Hotels is already on your radar. Known for its mindful take on luxury, the brand brings together thoughtful design, biophilic architecture, and understated elegance with a genuine sense of comfort and care. Since opening its first doors in Miami and New York City in 2015, it has been quietly reshaping what it means to travel and stay sustainably.

Nearly a decade later, 1 Hotels makes its European debut with 1 Hotel Mayfair—a soothing hideaway on Berkeley Street that reimagines modern hospitality in the heart of London. We checked in for two nights to find out what sets it apart.

In the Middle of it All

Navigating a city as vast and vibrant as London can feel daunting for first-time visitors, which is why staying somewhere central makes all the difference and 1 Hotel Mayfair couldn’t be better placed. Step outside and Green Park is right across the road. The Royal Academy, Piccadilly Circus, and Bond Street are all close enough for a leisurely stroll.

Venture a little farther and you’ll find yourself at Hyde Park or Trafalgar Square, wandering through streets lined with heritage buildings and characterful corners. With so much within walking distance, it’s easy to fill the day shopping, sightseeing, or simply soaking up the city’s rhythm.

An Entrance to Remember

First impressions matter, and this urban oasis ensures you remember yours. The moment you walk through the doors, the city noise fades away. The lobby feels cocooned—all warm wood, soft lighting, and abundant greenery.

At its centre, suspended like a living chandelier canopy, is ‘Rainforest’ by Patrick Nadeau. The four-metre dome, covered in more than 50,000 strands of Tillandsia usneoides, glows softly to reveal its intricate beauty. It’s a quiet statement of the hotel’s ethos—art, design, and sustainability existing in balance.

Rooms That Do More

Spread across eight floors, 1 Hotel Mayfair houses 181 rooms—137 guest rooms and 44 suites—all shaped by the brand’s nature-first philosophy. We stayed in a Lounge King, a quietly layered space where moss walls add a hint of green and timber floors made from fallen British oak anchor the room in warmth. The bathroom, finished with Welsh slate, continues that connection to the outdoors.

Sustainability here feels effortless. Hangers are made from recycled materials, laundry bags are reusable, and glassware is upcycled from old bottles. Even the robes, towels, and slippers are crafted from natural cotton—thoughtful choices that make a quiet difference.

Modern comforts aren’t forgotten either. There’s a 55-inch HD Smart TV, Bluetooth speakers, an electronic safe, and a pillow-top mattress to make it easy to unwind. But what we appreciated most was the bottle-fill station—filtered water on tap, fresh and waste-free. A small touch, perhaps, but one that speaks volumes.

Good Taste Lives Here

1 Hotel Mayfair takes dining seriously, with three distinct spaces that cater to every mood. Our mornings began at Dovetale, where breakfast is so generous it could easily carry you into the afternoon. The croissants are buttery and flaky, the pain au chocolat is decadently chocolate, and the full English breakfast hearty and satisfying. Come nightfall, the restaurant transforms under the guidance of two-Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers, serving an à la carte menu of refined classics and grilled specialities.

Neighbours is the go-to for light bites and a great cup of coffee, while Dover Yard draws inspiration from nature for its cocktails—think margaritas, bee’s knees, and espresso martinis with an organic twist.
