Starting New Year’s Day, individuals caught littering in public places will be subject to a fine of up to RM2,000 or up to 12 hours of community service within a six-month period or both.

Accordingly, the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) is calling on the general public to also assist in enforcing the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672), which is in effect in selected states.

Taking to its Facebook page, SWCorp said that strict enforcement also requires the involvement of members of the community. One way to do so is by lodging reports on any littering offences.

“The responsibility of ensuring a clean, beautiful and prosperous Malaysia STARTS WITH ME,” SWCorp stressed.
