KUCHING, Jan 16: The Sarawak Women’s Leadership Chair (SWLC) has been renamed the Datuk Amar Juma’ani Chair with the approval of Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to a TVS news report, Minister of Women, Children, and Community Wellbeing Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the chair was originally approved by the Cabinet on Aug 21, 2025.

“The main purpose of the chair is to empower women through various programmes, activities, and leadership training to enhance leadership skills among women in Sarawak,” she said at a press conference of the Sarawak Women and Family Council (MWKS) held here today.

Fatimah, who is also MWKS chairperson, said programmes involving training, scholarships, and community engagement will be implemented in collaboration with several institutions.

These include the Sarawak Public Service Leadership Institute, Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (Scope), Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas), and the Sarawak Centre of Technology Excellence (Centexs).

She said each programme must deliver strong outcomes, be sustainable, and contribute meaningfully to women’s empowerment.

Fatimah also noted that empowering women through education and skills training aligns with the D2E1 (Diversity, Equality, Equity, and Inclusion) objectives.

Earlier, the Sarawak government approved a one-off allocation of RM5 million to support the initiative. — DayakDaily
