Gemini overlay and Gemini Live start rolling out big Android redesign [Gallery]

After redesigns in February and March, Google is rolling out another big revamp for the Gemini overlay and Gemini Live. These visual updates are arriving in surprisingly quick succession.

Gemini overlay

Last month, the Gemini overlay on Android was redesigned with the full Tools menu. Google has a new design that combines the menus for attachments and Tools. Compared to before, the pill is slightly narrower, while “Ask Gemini” is larger and the microphone switches to an outline-style icon.

Tapping the ‘plus’ slides up a bottom sheet. It starts with a carousel for Photos, Camera, Files, Drive, and Notebooks at the top that makes use of large, rounded squares.

Next up are Create image, Create video, Create music, Canvas, Deep research, Guided learning, and Personal Intelligence (toggle). Google has been testing a combined design on the web, and this should also be coming to the full mobile app (which sees no changes today).

Gemini Live

Gemini Live is also getting a big redesign, starting with the overlay accessible outside the full app. Instead of a pill that spans most of the screen, there’s now a floating interface. The waveform is at the center and flanked by screen sharing and a keyboard to exit Live. In the top-right corner, you’ll find the captions button. This Live overlay will condense into a smaller circle than before as you start navigating your phone.

This redesign is also present in the full Gemini app when you launch Live. The fullscreen interface has been replaced by the overlay, with the regular homescreen appearing underneath.

We’re seeing these redesigns with Google app beta version 17.3 today. If it’s not yet available, Force stop from App info. We’re not seeing this redesign in the stable channel yet.
