Tyler Perry’s 'Beauty In Black' Cast & Character Guide

The trendy Tyler Perry show, which is going into its third season this week, tells the scandalous story of the Bellaries. The family that has built itself up on the back of a multi-million dollar hair care company – Beauty In Black. The show includes some dark themes including a trafficking system running under the Bellaries. Of course, the main story revolves around Kimmie, an adult entertainer-turned-Bellarie family heir. The show begins with her at rock bottom in her life, but by the end of two seasons, Kimmie is on top of the world, and now, people are looking at her. Dance clubs, human trafficking, crazy plastic surgery, and a lot more is what you get to see in this intense show about a crumbling empire being raised back up by women. With that said, let’s jump straight into the cast and character guide of the show.

Kimmie Played By Taylor Polidore Williams

Taylor is not new to the Tyler Universe, and you may have seen her in Divorce In The Black before. She’s also been in shows like Wicked City, All American Homecoming, and Snowfall. She plays Kimmie, the outsider in Beauty In Black. An exotic dancer-turned-entrepreneur, Kimmie’s always had big dreams, and thanks to Horace, she can finally start to turn them to reality. In season 2, she ends up taking over the empire, unexpectedly, or maybe expectedly, if you got a good read on all the characters.

Mallory Played By Crystle Stewart

44-year-old Crystle is a Miss USA titleholder who has also been in the Tyler Perry universe before. You may have seen her in shows like For Better Or Worse, Too Close To Home, and TBS: For Better Or Worse. She was also in Perry’s Acrimony. Mallory is Kimmie’s big inspiration, because she’s built such  a big empire. Mallory is your typical businesswoman, born into riches. She’s all about her image, and though she has her own secret affairs, nobody needs to know what’s happening behind the curtain as long as she looks like she’s keeping it together in the limelight.

Horace Played By Ricco Ross

Ross is a veteran actor known for his role in the iconic Aliens film back in 1986. He was in 2017’s Sandman, but you may also know him from stuff like The Legend Of Catclaws Mountain, The Last Job, Phoenix, or Unexpected Christmas. Horace is the patriarch of the family. Without him, there would be no Beauty In Black, but he’s not very happy with how his children have turned out. Ironically, he himself meets Kimmie as a client, but what follows is history.

Angel Played By Xavier Smalls

The young actor isn’t known for much outside of Beauty In Black, with Xavier perhaps being his biggest role yet. He’s been in shorts before, debuting in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Destination Wedding. Angel is a friend of Kimmie’s, and works in the club with her. You could say he acts as her confidant too, because they’ve known each other forever. Soon after Kimmie gets involved with Horace, so does Angel, who gets called for some help by Horace and becomes a part of the core team, so to speak.

Sylvie Played By Bailey Tippen

Bailey, like Xavier, is best known for her role in Beauty In Black. She’s a multi-talented actress who is fluent in German. You may have seen her in shows and films like BMF, Tales, First Wives Club, and Legends Of  Tomorrow. Bailey plays Sylvie, Kimmie’s younger sister. Being a young woman in this world is nearly impossible, and had it not been for Kimmie, Sylvie too would’ve ended up in the flesh trade. Well, she kinda did.

Charles Played By Steven G. Norfleet

Norfleet has been in Interview With The Vampire, and now The Vampire Lestat. This show might be his biggest role yet, and nobody can do Charles better than him in my opinion. You might’ve seen him in the show Ruthless, or the film Genius. Charles is Horace’s son, but only by blood. Horace can’t stand the guy, because apart from being openly gay, which is of course, a big “problem,” he’s kind of useless when it comes to work. Also, I think it’s okay to say that he might have the most scandalous storyline of all, with a murder, plus his own family faking a theft at his home etc.

Roy Played By Julian Horton

Horton has been in movies and shows like Ruined, Tough Love: Atlanta, Bruh, and Black Spartans. Roy is Horace’s other son. Yet another useless kid, I wonder why Horace would want to outsource his entrepreneurs, eh? Jokes aside, the only role Roy really has is to be unfaithful to his powerful wife, who does all the work and cleans up every mess he leaves behind.

Jules Played By Charles Malik Whitfield

Another veteran actor, Whitfield is known for his roles in Behind Enemy Lines, and Empire. His biggest role yet has been in the Emmy winning The Temptations. Whitfield plays Jules, the Bellarie confidant. He’s the head bodyguard, but he knows all the family secrets, working closely together with multiple family members.

Rain Played By Amber Reign Smith

Another actress who is already a part of the Tyler Perry universe, Amber Reign Smith has been in Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip, just this year. She’s also been in stuff like Nice Girl’s Finish Single, Kold x Windy, Outlaw Posse, and The Other Black Girl. Rain is Kimmie’s other bestie since childhood; really, she’s like her sister more than friend. Rain has an intense storyline and is lucky she has a friend like Kimmie. Honestly, everyone who knows Kimmie is lucky on this show at this point.

Olivia, Played By Debbi Morgan

In real life Morgan does not look half her age, but the show really tries to age her with a wig. The 69-year-old actress has been around for a long time, in stuff like Ever’s Bayou, all the way back in 1997, Divorce In The Black, All My Children, Love & Basketball, Power, and more. Morgan plays Horace’s cunning ex-wife, who will stoop to any level for the sake of money. I suppose being a part of the family comes with its fare share of narcissism.

Norman Played By Richard Lawson

Lawson is an actor well known for his work in horror films, his most popular role being in Poltergeist. He was also in Divorce In The Black, Scream Blacula Scream, Black Fist, and many other films and TV shows. I’d say this guy is the second biggest man on the show. Norman is Horace’s younger brother and will do anything for money. No, literally, anything. So, you know that his businesses are not at the forefront of the family.

Officer Alex Played By Bryan Tanaka

Bryan Tanaka isn’t just an actor, but he’s also a famous choreographer who used to date THE Mariah Carey. The Japanese-American actor is known for his work in Step Up Revolution, La La Land, and The Legion Of Extraordinary Dancers. Alex is a very fun character on the show, and though he’s a cop, he’s essentially working for the Bellaries at this point. There’s an exciting romance brewing between him and an unexpected character, but will it actually work out? I’m not so sure.
