KUCHING, Oct 8: A dispute over an alleged affair ended with two women being fined by the Magistrates’ Court today after they admitted to engaging in a fight in a public place.
Azia Taufek, 40, was ordered to pay RM1,000 and face one week in jail if she failed to pay, while Noor Azizan Bokhari, 45, was fined RM200, with a one-day jail term as an alternative.
Both women pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 159 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 160 of the same law.
Magistrate Nureina Syafika Mohd Najib handed down the sentences after hearing the facts of the case.
The altercation took place at about 10pm on Sept 30 in a village near Jalan Muhibbah, where the women were involved in a confrontation that disrupted public order.
The court heard that the dispute stemmed from Noor Azizan’s alleged discovery that her husband was involved in an affair with Azia.
Noor Azizan later confronted Azia and verbally abused her before punching her in the face. The assault left Azia with swelling on her left cheek.
Investigations revealed that the two women had exchanged provocations before arranging to meet to resolve their disagreement. However, their meeting escalated into a physical confrontation in a public area.
Several members of the public witnessed the fight and subsequently alerted the authorities.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan appeared for the prosecution, while both accused were unrepresented in court. — DayakDaily
