Flood victims in Sibu and Mukah on the rise

KUCHING, Feb 5: The number of flood evacuees in Sibu and Mukah continue to rise, even as the overall count of flood victims across Sarawak are declining.
According to reports by the Civil Defence Force (APM) at 12pm today, 5,765 evacuees from 1,659 families are currently seeking shelter at 33 active temporary relief centres (PPS) across Sarawak.
This was a decline from 5,930 evacuees at 34 PPS reported at 8am, with Sibu and Mukah reporting an increase in flood victims overnight.
Significant decreases in the number of flood victims were reported in Serian, Bintulu, and Miri.
However, Mukah continues to experience rising floodwaters this afternoon, leading to an increase in evacuees.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a weather warning at 1pm today, of bad weather conditions in several areas across Sarawak.
Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan, Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu, and Mukah areas are expected to experience heavy continuous rainfall from today until Feb 7.
It issued a continuous rain alert for Sri Aman, Sarikei (Julau), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Bintulu dan Miri (Subis dan Miri) from today until Friday (Feb 7).
Residents in high-risk, flood-prone areas are advised to take precautions and closely monitor water levels in their areas. – DayakDaily
