KUCHING, Feb 5: Volunteers from PETRONAS and its subsidiaries have been actively assisting and offering support to those affected by the recent floods in Bintulu, Kuching and Miri.

Through a collaborative effort, PETRONAS, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Asset), Malaysia LNG Group of companies (MLNG), and Asean Bintulu Fertiliser Sdn Bhd (ABF), as well as its social impact arm Yayasan Petronas, have donated rescue boats, outboard engines, fuel, and essential emergency supplies—including food, beverages, and hygiene kits—valued at over RM800,000 to assist flood victims.

In a media release today, PETRONAS noted that thousands of local emergency responders and volunteers have been involved in search and rescue operations across flood-hit areas, including Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, Kuching, and coastal townships like Sebuyau and Mukah.

Cleanup efforts are currently underway, as residents and local authorities assess the damage caused by the flooding.

Bintulu was the hardest-hit area in Sarawak, with several neighbourhoods submerged and residents stranded on rooftops by the floodwaters.

More than 9,000 people across Sarawak were forced to evacuate after a continuous heavy downpour which started on Jan 28, triggered floods and landslides. — DayakDaily
