Flash floods hit Lundu as rain, tidal surges, overflowing streams inundate villages

LUNDU, Feb 5: Several low-lying areas in Lundu have been hit by flash floods after continuous rainfall, which was further exacerbated by tidal surges and overflowing mountain streams.
According to Lundu district police, the downpour began around 11pm on Feb 4 and has led to flooding in various locations.
Authorities, including relevant agencies, are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents.
The police report also confirmed that the water levels in the Batang Kayan and Semapu rivers remain at safe and manageable levels.
Villages in Lundu affected by the flooding include Kampung Selampit, Kampung Sileng Melayu/Dayak, Kampung Bitokan, Kampung Seketi, Kampung Semunin Cina, Kampung Pulo Air, Kampung Senibong, and areas surrounding Lundu town.
Additionally, the Sematan Police Station reported flooding in Kampung Sebat, Kampung Pueh, Kampung Siru, Kampung Paon, and Kampung Sebako. Despite the flooding, temporary evacuation centres have not yet been activated, and no evacuations have taken place.
Residents are advised to stay vigilant, heed official warnings, and report any rising waters to authorities immediately.
Community leaders, including village chiefs, have been urged to promptly contact the IPD operation room if water levels rise in their areas. — DayakDaily
