MobLand’s Deaths: Everyone Who Died In Season 1

The worth of life is inversely proportional to death count in any crime family saga, and MobLand is not an exception in that regard. In the span of ten episodes of the series’ first season, almost a dozen main and supporting characters meet their end, and the raging power struggle between the Harrigans and the Stevensons threatens to upturn the established order of London’s underworld.

Spoilers Ahead

Tommy Stevenson’s Death Kicked Things Off

The longstanding rivalry between the powerful crime families was reignited with the death of Tommy Stevenson, which took place off-screen in the very first episode of the series. Son of the Stevenson family patriarch, Richie, and heir to his criminal enterprise, Tommy was foolish enough to put his trust in Eddie Harrigan, and paid the price by getting himself murdered and dismembered. Maeve was the mastermind behind the killing, who used Eddie as her pawn, and the brutality involved with the death was a direct act of provocation that made an all-out conflict with the Stevensons inevitable.

Archie Hammond Died For Nothing

Conrad Harrigan’s longtime friend and advisor, Archie Hammond, also perished in the first episode, after Maeve triggered Conrad’s paranoia and made him believe that Archie was the mole in the family who had been helping Richie in the fentanyl trade. Conrad shot Archie to death, mistaking his genuine concern about Conrad’s decision-making skills for a secretive ploy to weaken the Harrigan family. It can be argued that Maeve needed Archie eliminated to play a complex 5D chess-level mind game with her family members to strengthen their resolve, like she claims she did, but Archie’s death still doesn’t contribute to any significant change in the narrative.

Valjon Died a Patsy

Nightclub owner Valjon, who helped Eddie Harrigan to keep Tommy’s murder a secret by chopping up the Stevenson heir’s body and hiding the remains, met a brutal end at the hands of Harry Da Souza. Harry and Kevin decided to use Valjon as a patsy, pinning the blame for Tommy’s murder on him before delivering him to Richie, in order to mitigate the rapidly escalating situation. Valjon agreed to comply with Harry’s plan after being assured that his family would be taken care of afterward. Following a torturous interrogation session with Valjon, Richie ordered Harry to kill the nightclub owner to test Harry’s integrity, and without flinching for a second, Harry brutally stabbed Valjon to death. In reality, Richie had a strong suspicion that Valjon was a patsy all along, and given how the course of events shaped up later anyway, it seems the nightclub owner died for nothing.

Vron’s Death in a Car Bombing

Richie’s wife, Vron Stevenson, paid the price of drawing Maeve’s ire. During Tommy’s funeral, Vron was no longer able to suppress her anger with the Harrigans, knowing full well that they had orchestrated her son’s brutal murder. Vron insulted Maeve in public, and with that daring act, reduced her own life expectancy to mere hours. That very night, Maeve made arrangements to have Vron’s car rigged with explosives, and the next morning Richie lost yet another family member. Even after knowing of the Harrigans’ involvement in Tommy’s death, Richie was willing to maintain peace—but Vron’s death made it impossible for any semblance of reason and peace to exist.

Brendan Harrigan’s Death

Richie had Brendan Harrigan killed by having him and Seraphina abducted with the help of fentanyl trade hotshot Mexican gang leader Jaime Perez. Even though a cowardly Brendan’s harrowing final fate of being dismembered by a chainsaw might evoke a sense of pity among viewers, it is satisfying to see Maeve get her comeuppance for once. Maeve thought she was in a position to bargain with Richie after having his son and wife murdered, which is why, after giving up Seraphina and Brendan’s location, she specifically instructed him to not put Brendan in harm’s way. Joke’s on her, because Richie did exactly the opposite and had Brendan killed first. To relish in the agony of the Harrigans, Richie even had the brutal killing livestreamed. Brendan’s death proved to be a point of no return, as the families became fully involved in the bloody conflict.

DS Fisk and DC Mukasa Get Played

The chief investigators who were hell-bent on exposing the Harrigans, DS Fisk and his partner, DC Mukasa, meet a tragic end after putting their trust in turncoat veteran officer Colin Tattersall. Colin had them convinced that providing immunity to Richie Stevenson would allow the authorities to take down the Harrigans for good, but in reality, he was secretly a stooge working for Richie. Finding the right opportunity, Colin brought Fisk and Mukasa to Richie, who shot both of them dead—effectively putting Colin in the so-called driving seat of the investigation unit.

Freddie Shaw’s Death

Freddie, one of the members of Richie Stevenson’s crew, had himself caught in Harry’s vice grip and was acting as his informant. Freddie helped Harry to smuggle weapons into the Stevenson residence as part of a contingency plan. However, Freddie outlived his usefulness the moment he shared the identity of the mole in the Harrigan family with Harry, as it would have been too risky to have the intel leaked and O’Hara, the mole in question, become aware of the situation. Harry threw Freddie off of a roof, and the nasty fall onto a parked car below meant his instant death. Later, Conrad became a bit wary about Harry’s loyalty after learning of Freddie’s death and questioned him about it—with Harry rightly evading the questions.

Alan Rusby’s Death

Former prison warden Alan Rusby had raped a young Kevin Harrigan years ago, subjecting him to a trauma from which he couldn’t escape for the rest of his life. With Harry’s intel, Kevin was able to track down Rusby, who seemed like a changed person when Kevin confronted him about his past actions. Kevin almost considered sparing his life, but Rusby touched a nerve by asking Kevin whether he had a child. After all, Kevin was able to confirm on the same day that Eddie was not his son after all; he was Conrad’s son with Kevin’s wife, Bella. Kevin shot Rusby to death right there and, later on, went on a cathartic monologue as he gradually unshackled himself of his emotional burdens. Confronting and killing his abuser allowed Kevin to process his woes and grow as a person in the process—even if the said person is a stone-cold, vicious, remorseless killer.

Alice/Nicola’s Death

Nicola, the undercover informant who was extracting intel from the Harrigans by befriending Jen Da Souza, met a tragic end in the season finale as Colin Tattersall betrayed her. Risking her life, Alice accepted Conrad’s dinner invitation, and it was her act of gathering Conrad’s DNA that allowed Colin to use it to detain him and Maeve on false charges. But unaware of Colin’s true nature, she made the mistake of meeting with him after the completion of her mission in hopes of getting what was promised to her in exchange. Colin had Alice delivered to Richie’s goons, who knocked her out—and it doesn’t take much imagination to predict what a horrid fate must be awaiting the poor woman.

Kiko’s Death

Extremely skilled in combat and evasion tactics, Zosia and Kiko had proven themselves as loyal, dependable enforcers of Harry and, by extension, of the Harrigan family. Setting an ambush for Richie’s men in the Guildford safehouse, the duo were able to take down the adversaries with ease, but one of the surviving thugs shot Kiko to death at the end. Zosia was particularly moved by the death of her brother in arms, and there is a chance that Kiko’s demise affects her worldview in the second season.

Richie Stevenson’s Death

Richie Stevenson dropped the ball at the final stage of the proverbial game by trusting O’Hara, and in the process got played by Harry Da Souza. In doing so, he lost all his crew; half of them were killed by Paul in the bombing of O’Hara’s office, while the other half were killed in an ambush by Zosia and Kiko. Richie himself was cornered in his hideout by Harry and Kevin, and in the end, Kevin claimed the proverbial Harrigan empire by shooting their sworn rival, Richie Stevenson, to death.

O’Hara’s Death Was Inevitable

Playing a double game can be fatal in the mob business, a lesson O’Hara learned at the cost of her life in the final episode of the first season of MobLand. After getting exposed as the mole in question, O’Hara had mistakenly considered that Harry had let her off the hook, and she helped Harry and Kevin to set up Richie out of gratitude for sparing her life. In the end, Harry didn’t think twice about shooting O’Hara to death, not showing a second’s hesitation to take down a turncoat.
