M'sian Student Forced To Squat 30 Times As He Wasn't Able To Pay 50 Sen Penalty For Dirty Classroom | WeirdKaya

For most Malaysian students, doing squats (ketuk ketampi) is a classic form of punishment whenever we don’t finish our homework on time or misbehave.

However, a mother recently claimed that her child was allegedly made to do 30 squats as he was unable to pay a 50 sen penalty for not keeping the classroom clean.

Made to do 30 squats by teacher

In a Threads post, the woman said her child returned home from school with a pair of sore legs after he was forced to do squats by the disciplinary teacher.

When she questioned him about the cause, the child said his classroom was found to be the dirtiest and the entire class was given two options: either pay a 50 sen penalty or do squats.

Unfortunately for him, he didn’t have 50 sen with him at the time and thus was made to do 30 squats there and then.

As for those who had the money to pay, they were spared from the punishment.

In another post, the woman revealed that the entire class were punished with 10 squats and had to pay 50 sen on the spot.

“I guess I now have put an extra 50 sen in his school bag,” she remarked sarcastically.

Netizens shocked

In the comment thread, netizens were stunned to hear of students being punished with squats just because they couldn’t pay the penalty, with one calling the punishment “unreasonable”.

‘As a teacher myself, I hope you complain to the school’s management. How can (a teacher) punish students like this and ask for money? Too much lah!’

‘The mindset of “everything can be settled with money. You have money, then you can escape from the punishment” has already been implanted in kids’ minds.’

In response to the comments, the woman said she will continue to monitor the situation and will only confront the school if the punishment were to be applied for the second time.
