Where art meets taste: This Kota Kemuning cafe serves artisanal coffee and bespoke florals

Sitting among humble shop lots overlooking terraced residences, Peonique’s elegant and refined charm stands out against its slightly more aged neighbours.
Featuring clean, white walls, a contemporary store sign, and windows and glass doors spanning the facade of the store, it’s hard for visitors of the Kota Kemuning shop row to not at least turn their heads to view the polished interiors of Peonique when pacing its front, alluding to a space more reminiscent of a gallery than a cafe.
Indeed, much work and thought has been put into creating such a space—where design and architecture instantly catches the eye, prompting the question of the hows behind it.
The answer?
Years of experience behind weddings and event designCo-founded by a pair of creatives with a background in event design, production and visual storytelling, Peonique serves as a testament to the duo of founders’ expertise, showcasing their skills in space crafting and proving their eye for good design.
“We wanted to create a space where floral artistry, coffee and design coexist in harmony—a calming escape from the everyday, where even a simple cup of coffee feels like a moment to slow down and savour beauty,” said Rachel Yew, one of the co-founders and the creative director behind Peonique.
Along with her partner Carrere Chew, the duo claimed that they self-funded a startup capital of approximately RM500,000, building a space that “leans towards a minimal, clean aesthetic—with sharp lines, muted tones and a touch of modern edge.”
For the design and decor, they utilised their long-running experience in curating immersive environments for weddings, events, pop-ups and styled shoots to birth a boutique cafe, that also offers bespoke floral styling and arrangements.
“We’ve always had a deep appreciation for aesthetics, mood and sensory detail—all of which naturally transitioned into the world of café and florals,” Rachel added.
Even before entering the space, passersby are instantly drawn to the floral centerpiece, boasting a manicured arrangement of (at the time) preserved caspias and pampas among others, evoking a true sense of nature that juxtaposes the contemporary, near-brutalist, neon-lit, circular, white-countered, bench situation that surrounds it.
“The floral element comes in as a soft counterbalance—subtle arrangements, sculptural blooms and delicate textures that bring just the right amount of warmth and femininity. It’s a blend of structure and softness, inspired more by spatial clarity and mood rather than nature in its raw form.”
The centerpiece and arrangements and decors that are weaved with the cafe doubles the space as a living floral installation—providing a seamless blend of retail and visual experience that shows off Peonique’s floral services.
From seasonal bouquets and table centerpieces to floral gifts and personal styling, Peonique’s bespoke floral styling and arrangements are made-to-order and requested in advance, which can be done via their socials.
In a way, the cafe space acts as a showroom for their floral
But of course, what’s a cafe…
Without its coffee“Our most popular item is, without a doubt, our coffee. We’ve carefully selected a versatile blend that strikes the perfect balance. It’s well-rounded enough to cater to both casual drinkers and coffee enthusiasts,” said Rachel.
“We place a strong emphasis on artisanal coffee, sourcing seasonal beans from reputable roasters, both local and international, to ensure a dynamic and evolving menu.”
“As for pastries and cakes, we collaborate with renowned bakers from across the Klang Valley, selecting items that complement our beverages and overall aesthetic. It’s less about R&D in the traditional sense and more about thoughtful curation, pairing quality products that speak the same design and flavour language.”
With a seasonal floral decor and a constantly evolving menu, the theme of Peonique seems to be ‘growth,’ offering visitors something new or different every so often.
And with their recent pop-up at Eco Forest, Semenyih their growth has borne blooms.
-//-“Hosting our first forest-themed outdoor coffee pop-up was a surreal moment. It was a creative risk and it was about bringing our love for design and coffee beyond the four walls of the café and into nature. It challenged us creatively and logistically, but ultimately reinforced our vision of creating intentional, sensory experiences—wherever we are.”
Over the months since their opening in January, Peonique has seen steady growth month-over-month, leading them to continue refining the space and expanding their menu and floral offerings, keeping flavours fresh and the views Instagram-worthy.
“Peonique isn’t just a café, it’s a mood, a moment, a place where art meets taste. Whether you’re here for coffee, flowers or calm—we hope you leave inspired.”
