Suga Episode 4 Recap: What Is Candy’s Secret?
The Dutch motorcycle gang drama Suga has been exceptionally entertaining so far, by balancing its gang turf war, deeper psychological themes, and the interpersonal complexities between its major characters. While Suga, Spike, and Candy’s triangular dynamic is the highlight of the show, deciding emotional stakes, the police and the authorities also often cross into the gray areas of moral and legal ambiguity. The last episode has been confrontational, with Candy killing and burning Marcel, her own brother for sustained abuse of Daisy, her dead daughter. On the other hand, the Irish take Melissa hostage and give Suga a deadline till the end of the day to deliver the 3000 KG consignment of meth. This episode sees yet another round of shifting alliances and changing of sides while it tries to secure Melissa’s life.

What Happens in This Episode? In a flashback, Candy visits Spike in the jail. It seems like there is a little bit of a secret that they have been keeping from each other that can change a lot in their dynamic. At present, Candy is devastated and guilty about killing Marcel. On the other hand, Suga needs her help to locate the shipment of meth in order to save Melissa. The Irish threaten to hurt Melissa if the shipment is not delivered by the end of the day. Suga reveals that he has paid someone in jail to kill Spike since Spike ordered the attack in the tunnel that killed Mattias. However, Suga has to put a hold on this since no one except for Spike knows the location of the shipment, which is crucial to save Melissa. As Suga desperately tries to call, Spike is already stabbed in his stomach. Spike is being taken towards the hospital when Suga and Candy rush to him on a bike, but Spike’s gang is already there. Lynn had informed the gang about the attack, and they rescued Spike from the police van.Candy has to act abruptly; she rides to the club and asks for Spike’s help yet another time. Spike decides to help her, but his help becomes a double-edged sword. With the Department of Justice over her head and a sick niece, Lynn has become feral to catch hold of Suga and the floating shipment of meth. Lynn made a deal with Spike to give up Suga in exchange for Spike’s freedom, and Spike decides to play one for the team. Meanwhile, Melissa is being tortured by the men, and they cut off one of her toes. Candy reveals yet another secret about Daisy’s past to Suga, and it propels him to act swiftly to save his daughter. Suga runs to Spike and begs for help to save his daughter’s life. Spike wants Suga to bend the knee to him. After a tussle of egos, he gives him the location of the shipment. While Suga and Candy rush to the spot, Suga feels something is off about the location. His suspicion is correct—an entire police control room is there to catch hold of the duo. While Suga escapes to save Melissa, Candy is arrested. Candy’s maternal instincts have kicked in—she says she will give away Suga if only her daughter is safe and sound.Officer Lynn, who was being criticized for her crude and unconventional dealings with the criminal, is now convinced that she can get to Suga through Candy, besides already spotting the meth shipment. However, her senior officer gets to know about this collaboration of hers and is taken by shock. Suga rides to the club and confronts Spike for backstabbing him.
What is Candy’s secret?Suga and Spike, by this episode are not only rivals because they have turned on each other, but they also become contesting rivals for a position of fatherhood. Candy reveals to Spike that Daisy is actually Spike’s daughter and not Suga’s. While Suga is deeply motivated by and loyal to his family, Candy made Spike promise that he will never reveal this to Suga. Yet Candy asked for help while a liver transplant was needed, and only a father or mother could be a match. It also looks like Daisy shared a deep bond with Spike, since she went to visit Spike at the jail and confided in him about what Marcel was doing. Despite telling her that he would take care of Marcel, Spike never got around to avenge his daughter. While Candy had the leverage of this information, she also reveals it to Suga in the present day. Suga definitely is shocked by it and rides away on his bike, but he sees Daisy’s specter again, who reassures him that she is as much his daughter as Melissa is and pleads with him to save her. Suga is driven by an overpowering sense of protectiveness towards his family, and he does his best to track down Spike. In the last episode, I had discussed how Suga had become everything that Spike could have become, and Spike feels like he is a bystander to a life of which he could have been a part. Despite being a father, he could neither cherish nor grieve his daughter Daisy, nor could he protect her even when he wanted to. Adding to that, Spike feels that Suga has failed to protect Daisy as she was being abused right under his nose, in his own words. This makes their rivalry nuanced, complex, and rooted in deeper consciences than meets the eye.
How Does Spike Betray Suga? While Suga’s attempts in avenging the death of Matties are sheer violence, Spike moves in silence. He turns the situation to his advantage when Lynn visits his gang and possibly proposes a deal from which they could both benefit. Spike wants nothing but to be out and assume his position as the president of the gang, and Lynn wants nothing but to get to Suga. They both decide to help each other—in exchange for his release, Spike promises her Suga. Spike knows that he is the only person who knows the location of the shipment, and Suga will have to come to him. When Suga does come, Spike takes the maximum ego boost by asking Suga to kneel before him as his men point the gun towards him. This is Spike’s moral win—he is finally on the same turf as Suga, and Suga has to bend the knee to him, unlike every time in the past where it was Suga who had won. He got Candy, he got a family, and he even got out of prison.
Despite everything, I feel like these are men with big emotions; I refuse to believe that Spike would let anything happen to Melissa, if not for Suga’s sake, then for Candy and Daisy’s memories. However, things have turned tense with Suga going head-on for Spike now that he knows that it is Spike who ratted out on him to Lynn. Candy is in custody, and she has promised to speak if her daughter is saved and rescued. Suga finds alliances falling apart all around him and stands as a lone ranger by the end of the episode.
What Can We Expect out of Episode 5?Suga is really interesting in its turning of people against people, and every episode comes with a new, moving alliance. Episode four drives into an emotional territory where secrets and alliances are being weaponized. While Candy’s devastating confession about Daisy’s paternity introduces new stakes, Candy cannot rely on either Suga or Spike, especially when she gets to know Spike knew all along that Marcel was abusing Daisy. With Melissa’s life hanging by a thread, Suga and Spike are walking a thin line of personal rivalry, betrayal, and an overcoming sense of fatherhood to their children who may be lost. With episode four complicating the bonds, in episode five we can expect a choosing of sides yet again. With Candy in custody and her only bargaining chip against her daughter’s life being Suga, Lynn now has all the leverage she has been chasing so far. Suga’s fate does not look too bright with the entire gang and Spike as he heads to the club to confront Spike. Time is running out with the kidnappers torturing Melissa, and the options are closing in on Suga. The gang wars are not just about territory or money anymore; they turn into fights for protecting fractured families where betrayal looks inevitable. While for Suga, the motorcycle and the gang are an extension of his sense of selfhood, masculinity, and need for control, his daughter remains the only anchor to his humanity. Tune in to episode five to know how far he is willing to go to save his daughter.
