'Reasonable Doubt' Season 3 Episode 4 Recap: Who Had Abused Ozzie In His Childhood?
In the third episode of Reasonable Doubt, we saw that Bill had been put in a fix: on the one hand, his bosses were asking him to betray Jax’s trust and give them some dirt on her, whereas on the other, his conscience wouldn’t allow him to do that. I think Bill will not backstab Jax, as he is not that kind of man. We saw in episode 4 how he put in the effort to make sure his partner, Kendra, was not unhappy with him. We saw how he was constantly trying to understand her perspective and why she chose to take a break from their relationship. Another shocking revelation that was made in the previous episode was that Ozzie had been a victim of child abuse. Ozzie hadn’t opened up about it until then, and it took a lot of courage for him to do so. So let’s find out what happened in the 4th episode and if Jax was able to make any headway in the case.
Spoiler Alert
Did Daniel express his feelings to Kristen?Since the time Daniel had started going over to Ozzie’s place, he had grown quite close to Ozzie’s sister, Kristen. He had felt a very strong connection with her, but he was of two minds, and he didn’t know if he should go ahead and express his feelings or stick to his job. At the beginning of episode 4, we saw how he tried to pretend that he wasn’t that close to Kristen in front of Jax. But then later in the episode we saw them bonding together and spending a good evening with each other. There came a time when Kristen and Daniel got quite intimate with each other, and she felt that he would seize the opportunity and express his feelings to her. But that didn’t happen, as Ozzie came to the living room and interrupted them. Ozzie saw what was happening, and he was not fine with it. Ozzie asked Daniel to leave, and then he told his sister to stay away from him, as he was a part of his legal team. I personally don’t think that that would stop them from getting close to each other. I feel that in the subsequent episodes, Daniel might end up telling Kristen what he feels for her and take things forward from there.
Why did Lewis threaten Eddie?Lewis and Jax had planned in the previous episode of Reasonable Doubt that they needed to tell Niama about Jaden before she heard it from somewhere else. But Naima got to know about Lewis’ affair with Toni before her parents could talk to her. She came back home and lashed out at both Lewis and Jax. More than Lewis, she was unhappy with Jax, as she blamed her for not stopping the blunder from happening. Naima didn’t understand the kind of woman Jax was, and moreover, she didn’t understand the kind of relationship they had. Naima felt that her parents just needed an opportunity to ruin everything. For days, Naima and Spense didn’t talk to their parents. That’s when Lewis and Jax decided that they needed to tell them about Eddie, as that could also become an issue later on. But once again, things didn’t go as Lewis and Jax would have wanted. Naima and Spence were at their home with Mama Lu when Eddie arrived at their doorstep. He wanted to meet his grandchildren, and obviously Naima and Spense didn’t have any clue that he’d come back. In fact, all they knew about him was that he had left their mother, after which nobody heard from him. Eddie firstly apologized for not being there for his children, and then he sensed that the kids were not happy with their parents. He saw a deep rooted resentment in their tone, and that’s when he decided to know what had happened and why they were angry. Eddie was able to make his grandchildren understand that they shouldn’t blame their parents, as they did whatever they felt was right in that situation. Moreover, he told them how much their parents loved them and to what extent they could go for their happiness. The impact of Eddie’s words was so much so that Naima and Spense started behaving normally with their parents as if nothing had happened between them. Jax and Lewis were surprised, and they didn’t know what had led to that radical change. When Naima and Spense told them about meeting Eddie, Jax lost his cool. He didn’t like the fact that Eddie had met his kids without him knowing about it. He asked Jax how she could be fine with her kids meeting a man she didn’t want to be associated with for the longest time. But Jax’s point was that her kids seemed happy, and Eddie’s visit had been a blessing in disguise. But Lewis didn’t think so. He went to meet Eddie at the end of episode 4 and asked him to stay away from his family. Obviously, Eddie didn’t take it well, and he too didn’t hold back from saying a few nasty things to his son-in-law. Things got really heated as Lewis told Eddie that had he not been Jax’s father, he would have taught him a lesson. It would be interesting to find out how things pan out between both of them and if they are able to resolve their differences and at least act as a family.
Who Had Abused Ozzie In His Childhood?Jax, Bill, and her entire team felt that they needed to find a strong alibi for Ozzie, which meant they should tell the jury that he was physically abused as a child. Jax knew that it wouldn’t be easy to convince him to make that part of his life public. Jax went on to talk to Ozzie and told him that he didn’t need to bear the burden of that trauma all alone. Also, it occurred to Ozzie that she wouldn’t let the media know about it until it was brought to the notice of the court. Ozzie feared that the media would tarnish his image and make it look like it was all a PR stunt. But Jax was able to convince him, and she told him that, before saying anything in the court, Ozzie needed to have a chat with his parents. It wasn’t easy for Ozzie to tell his parents about what had happened. They were shocked and disheartened when they got to know about it and asked him why he didn’t come to them earlier. Ozzie told them that it was not so simple for him to do, as he didn’t know that he was being abused. He told them that until Jax talked to him, he felt that it was a consensual act because that was what his abuser convinced him. Jax knew how difficult it was for Ozzie to make his secrets public, but she was helpless, as she knew that bringing all those things to light would help her and Ozzie’s cause. Jax knew that if they wanted to strengthen their narrative, they needed to make the jury aware of what had happened with Jax and how he had grown to become an addict. Jax wanted sympathy for her client, and she knew that telling the jury about his childhood trauma was the best way to do that. Meanwhile, Daniel, while spending time with Kristen, had gotten to know that Ozzie had a habit of journaling every day, and he felt that maybe he could find some relevant information in his diaries. So when Jax and Ozzie had gone to court for the hearing, Daniel went to Ozzie’s condo to look for his journals. At the end of the episode we got to know that Daniel not only found the journals but also got to know who had abused Ozzie in the past. The most shocking fact was that that person was still taking advantage of him, and nobody knew about it. Ozzie’s abuser was none other than his own agent/manager, Monica. In a flashback scene, we saw how she came to meet him just after Wendy left Ozzie and how she took advantage of him when he was in an inebriated state. I believe in the past too Monica would have encouraged him to use drugs so that she could do what she wanted with him. This information will change everything in the future, and I believe Jax would want to use it in the court. It would be interesting to see what happens in the case and if Jax is able to save her client this time around.
