KUCHING, Oct 12: Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) has confirmed that the Bidayuh Longhouse was affected in a fire that broke out within its premises at around 7.30pm today.
In a statement issued tonight, SCV said the blaze was swiftly brought under control by firefighters from the Petra Jaya, Tabuan Jaya and Padungan fire stations.
“We are relieved to report that no injuries or casualties have been reported,” the statement said.
SCV clarified that the Bidayuh Longhouse was the only structure affected, while all other cultural houses and facilities within the popular living museum remain intact and unaffected.
An immediate investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
“The safety and preservation of our cultural heritage remain our utmost priority, and necessary steps will be taken to assess the damage and plan for restoration,” it added.
SCV also assured that the village will remain open to visitors, with access temporarily restricted around the affected area to ensure safety and facilitate investigation and recovery efforts.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to the fire and rescue teams for their prompt response and professionalism,” SCV said.
Earlier, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that the fire involved a wooden structure within the SCV, with no casualties recorded. — DayakDaily
