Man’s arrest cracks at least 10 motorcycle theft cases in Bau dating back to July

KUCHING, Oct 28: Police believe they have solved at least 10 motorcycle theft cases in Bau following the arrest of a 21-year-old local man who is suspected of being actively involved in the crimes since July.

In a TVS news report, the suspect was apprehended at about 3.50pm on Monday (Oct 27) during Op Lejang Khas carried out by personnel from the Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD Bau).

Bau District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Haide A. Rahman said police recovered a motorcycle that had just been reported stolen from Batu Kawa, along with Malaysian and Indonesian currency and a chicken spur, believed to have been used as a weapon.

“Initial investigations show the suspect has been active in motorcycle thefts since July. With this arrest, we have successfully solved at least 10 cases reported around Bau,” he said.

The suspect has been remanded for further investigation under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motorcycle theft and offences involving possession of dangerous weapons.

Police also called on the public to continue providing information on criminal activity to help safeguard the community. — DayakDaily
