Just announced earlier yesterday, our very own Michelle Yeoh is set to be the Celebrity Presenter at the Korean MAMA Awards!
And Malaysians are thrilled.
It is no secret that we have a huge K-Pop audience here in Malaysia, and to have Michelle Yeoh apart of this, has netizens screaming “Malaysia Boleh!” , “Malaysia Represent!”.
The MAMA Awards, formerly known as the Mnet Asian Music Awards is an annual major award ceremony held famously around Asia, mainly South Korea as it is organised by entertainment powerhouse CJ ENM.
The award show is meant to honour majority of the K-Pop artists and their excellent work all year, whilst including awards for Best Asian Artist and more.
In recent years, organisers have voiced out on their plan to make MAMA as a highly credible award show that brings more impact to their artists. Just last year, the award show has branched out of Asia, and was held in the US for the first time.
This year, MAMA will be held in Hong Kong on the 28th & 29th of November, a two day affair.
It was last held in Hong Kong, 7 years ago.
Michelle Yeoh is joining a strong group of presenters, which includes big names such as Ahn Hyo-seop, Hyeri, Lee Kwang-soo, Ju Ji-hoon, and Shin Seung-hun.
While taking time from promoting her latest global release, “Wicked: For Good”, Yeoh’s presence at MAMA, will be an honourable representation to have, especially among the Asian community.
"The MAMA Awards has always pioneered new paths, and as K-pop has risen to the mainstream, Michelle Yeoh's participation holds special significance.", said PD Lee Young-ju at a press conference held, yesterday.
